Pepper Identification Help

My wife started a garden this year and she planted jalapenos. All the jalapenos came through but the last plant didn't harvest anything. That was until a few weeks ago. These peppers came through. These aren't jalapenos. What are they? She said that she only planted jalapenos in that area of the garden. Could they have possibly put the wrong seeds in the package?
Just interested to see what we have as I know we have a bunch of pepper heads here.

Those look like bhut jolokia (aka ghost pepper), or naga jolokia. Definitely not jalapenos. Wrong seeds in the package, or they possibly blew in from somewhere.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

Either way those are much hotter than jalapenos. Handle with care.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

Those look like hot peppers to me. 😜

I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night but I do have The Great American Chile Poster hanging in my kitchen.
Yours don't really look like any on the poster (the "peter pepper" comes close, which grows in LA and TX, but doesn't have the pointed ends like yours do). If you do taste them, please post video.

It is a small variety of Anaheim pepper. Almost no heat, but good flavor. I recommend just eating them after a quick wash and enjoy. Eat it whole, no hesitation or test bite. 😜

They must be ghost. My wife purchased ghost seeds but doesn't recall planting them.

I agree they look like Ghost peppers. A few years ago I had several 5 foot high Ghost pepper plants and hundreds of peppers. Never did figure out anything reasonable to do with them lol. My son did manage to get himself suspended for bringing one to school and having his buddies taste slivers

If you have good yield, you could make some killer fermented hot sauce with them. I like fermenting carrots in the mix, to balance the hot sauces I've made in the past.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

That seems a little harsh for having a little fun. I like how your son rolls!"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

I think the jalapeños were banging one out with the habaneros.

Glad my son just brings them to his friends houses instead of school. Ghost Peppers and Carolina Reapers. I was my parents first trick-or-treater tonight. Except I handed them a half pot of chili. I'm not sure how that works...loco_engr said:Dang Vincent . . . dats a big pot of chili!

Thanks. I was surprised how much heat came through with five ghost peppers and a serrano pepper. I thought the heat had a good bite. Hot, yet flavorful.Ozzie_Isaac said:

It was a double batch worth of chili. The original recipe calls for 10 jalapenos for a double batch. So I figured 5 would be about right. I'd go with the same amount the next go around. We have some chocolate habaneros to play around with yet. Just need to figure out what to add them in.Ozzie_Isaac said:

@WeberWho - chocolate habaneros sound like a perfect ingredient for a chocolate cake.

Ha! My wife planted them in the garden. I'm not too familiar with them either but it looks to have some heat.lousubcap said:@WeberWho - chocolate habaneros sound like a perfect ingredient for a chocolate cake.

I'm not familiar with birria. I had to look it up. Looks and sounds amazing. Especially with tortillas. I bookmarked a recipe. Definitely going to give these a try at some point. they are delicious and a bit messy. dont taste the sauce til the meat is ready, it starts out very spicy and mellows a bit during the long cook. been using shank and brisket and or oxtaillast one from last weekend, wasnt much oil floating on the sauce towards the end but the flour tortilla picks up all that flavor. never seen these til about a year or two ago

Good to know. I have leftover flat and point in the freezer.
