I have a DeWalt one that I use for measuring the temperature of the floor of my pizza oven. Works great."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

Thermoworks makes an IR /IR combo. Instant read mk4 with Infared beam shooting out the back side. It’s pricier than most regular Infrareds but you get a thermapen too.

Not sure but it wasn’t terribly expensive. I think I bought the cheapest one.loco_engr said:

I have and like this Thermoworks...

I have that one too. Works just fine. Great company.dbCooper said:I have and like this Thermoworks...

I have a no-name one, cheap from Amazon. Works fine. One of the things I do is use it to tell me when my cast iron skillets are hot enough and evenly heated enough to put some food on. I check the center and three or four places around near the rim.
Somewhere on the Colorado Front Range -
Mine is an older one from Thermoworks and at that time it even came with a plug in probe which made it even dual purpose! I still use the simple infrared aspect for more than just cooking! You can look for drafty window and door leaks for instance.I even use mine in my workshop to tell me when my brass branding iron is the proper temperature to brand my wood project without ruining it!(If you are a wood worker who owns a branding iron then you know what I mean!)Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I bought this one at HD at the start of the pandemic, selling the wife on the idea we could use it to check peoples temp...

Works great on the egg, grill and other non mammal things. Fails completely on humans, dogs etc.XLBGE, LBGE, Charbroil Gas Grill, Weber Q200, Old Weber Kettle, Rectec RT-B380, Yeti 65, Yeti Hopper 20, RTIC 20, RTIC 20 Soft Side - Too many drinkware vessels to mention.

@xfire_ATX - well played approach right there!Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

I have a fluke. I used it for pizza temps. Works okay but you need to think about it a bit to make sure you're getting the right data.Plymouth, MN

I went on Amazon and bought the "Amazon Choice". It was cheap, and works well.

If you set the emissivity to 0.78 it will approximate the temperature you would get when taken orally.xfire_ATX said:I bought this one at HD at the start of the pandemic, selling the wife on the idea we could use it to check peoples temp...

Works great on the egg, grill and other non mammal things. Fails completely on humans, dogs etc.
Emissivity of skin is 0.95-0.99, but your forehead temp runs lower than oral/rectal temp, so you set the emissivity to 0.78 as an off-set for the temperature delta.
If you are interested, here is some more detail:

I suspect a large portion of the IR guns people used during the pandemic were set incorrectly and the users didn't understand the peculiarities of non-contact IR readings.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Nice to know- I just bought one for use with people. That way SWMBO isnt "borrowing" my stuff only for me to never find it.Ozzie_Isaac said:

Don’t do this with dogs. Seriously. It F’s up their brains. Something about not being able to let go once out of sight, they get neurotic trying to find it. I’ve read this before, but worth a check with @DuckDogDrRRP said:

My dogs looked at the dot, then looked at my hand and then looked at me and went back to sleep.South of Columbus, Ohio.

Maybe look at the FLIR One for cellphones. Pretty amazing piece of kit. I think @nolaegghead has one.
