Old style hinges on Large. Put 3&1 oil on and now the lid will not stay open. Any ideas?
Thanks
Second question is if i have to replace will my “handle” sill fit new style?

My only experience with the lid not staying open has been with the older style hinge like you appear to have on yours. Every time it was a result of being a little out of level. I was shocked a couple times how sensitive it could be. I suspect yours has sat in its current location for some time? I would throw a level across the bottom section with the lid open and see if it’s tilted forward a little bit. Maybe just rotating it a few inches would solve the problem?

The new hinge has a much larger handle

  • My lid doesn't stay open well if the bolts on the back are not tight. Maybe after the oil you need to tighten up the bolts some.

the lower spring bolts sometimes loosen, they will tilt up a bit and you loose spring tension. when you look at those, look at the springs, ive had one crack which does the same thing

You could try to clean out the oil with alcohol, lacquer thinner, or other solvent.  Try to keep it off of the ceramic.

Guys the bottom bolts were the culprit. Thank you

Mine likes to close on me as well. I will check that bolt in the AM. I’ve just assumed I needed to upgrade to the new hinge, as perhaps this one is just wore out. Thanks for the tip, I’m sure my bolt is loose after reading this. Things like this make this forum great.

@Philly35, check for level too. If it leans toward the front, the dome won't stay open.

Mickey, glad you got yours fixed.
