Does anyone out there repair appliances? I have a front load LG I am having an issue with.

I’m sure there are still some repair shops out there. But they are getting fewer and farther in between for sure. That was one thing that I always really liked about Sears. Not only did they repair appliances, they would come to your home to repair them.bhugg said:Does anyone out there repair appliances? I sympathize, and would help if I could, but my guess is that anyone with the time and energy needed to address your issue probably charges pretty significant hourly sums to diagnose and correct such issues. That being said, some pretty good folks on this forum, so perhaps you will get lucky. Might help if you can provide further info as to your issue. Is it a front load washer you’re talking about?

You could try RepairClinic.com. They have pretty good troubleshooting guides that have saved me many times.

I would suggest not getting it fixed. Save yourself time and money and buy the basic speed queen top loader.Large, Medium, MiniMax, 36" Blackstone

Plenty of web resources might be able to help you track down the problem and how to fix it.

I agree, Scottie! I also have memories of a having 2 or 3 small Craftsman hand tools go bad, walk in to our Sears store with NO questions asked, no receipt required and the clerk who I didn't know, would just take the defective tool from me and throw it in a trash can, go to a display, hand me a new one and I'd walk out! Now, granted I never walked in with a washer and dryer on my back but Iknow for a fact we owned 2 sets of Sears w&d, 2 freezers, I refrig, 2 lawn mowers, 1 chain saw and 1 garage door opener I bought my parents and had delivered 250 miles from the Sears store where Ibought it and the Sears store which delivered it! That may sound weird to some people here, but Sears was WAY ahead of most merchant companies!SGH said:

I agree on the Speed Queen top loader. I have one and I think it's equal to the quality of the old Maytags that would last 20 years or so.
As far as repairing any of the new washers that are manufactured using Chinese labor, they are generally too expensive to repair with American labor. It is typically better just to throw away the Chinese washer and buy another, preferably a Speed Queen. In the unlikely event the Speed Queen needs a repair, you can generally justify it by knowing you are going to get many more years of service out of it. -
Sorry in advance for the thread jack, @bhugg.
The two votes above for a Speed Queen are not making my task any easier. We are currently investigating a new washer and dryer and had narrowed in on a Speed Queen set or an LG pair (unlike most LGs, this one has an agitator. The Speed Queens are built like a tank, but the capacity is smaller and I've read about concerns with how well they clean. We don't mind the lack of frills. LG seems like a safe choice and we were leaning that direction, but I'd be happy to hear from anyone's experience with either.Stillwater, MN -
As long as you don't mind replacing the LG periodically, it would work for you. I think I've read somewhere the 7 years is about all you can expect from washer, with the exception of the Speed Queens.StillH2OEgger said:Sorry in advance for the thread jack, @bhugg.

Speed Queen also makes front loaders. I would think given their many years of experience with laundromats, that a front loader from them would give better service than some of the other brands on the market.

I agree with @HeavyG there are tons of resources online, including youtube. Youtube has helped me to repair our clothes dryer and a kenmore refrigerator that came with the home we just bought. Previous owner left it and said it was shot...just needed a $40 fan...SCORE!South Central Kansas

Our dryer went tits up several years ago. Replaced the thermal fuse, but no dice. Called Sears repair service to take a look at it, and the guy was an idiot.
Punched some info into his Sears online tech manual or whatever and said "its either this, or this. I don't have the parts, so I'll have to order it. Then I'll come back, and put it in. And charge a service charge again + labor + parts. And if that doesn't work, I'll order the second part, then come back and charge you another service charge + labor +parts. "
Told him to fvck off and bought a dryer off craigslist for $ 80. It sounded like a freight train when it ran, but... it dried clothes. That died 2 years later. caliqueen and caliprince went to see a movie, and while they were gone, I found a dryer for $50 on OfferUp (newer than the previous one), picked it up, and hooked it up before they got home.
tl;dr= Look around - there are usually a lot of appliances on craigslist, OfferUp, LetGo, etc.

does the speed queen beep and chirp for ten minutes before starting. bought a 1 year old washer off my repair guy for a hundred a few years back and it will drive you nuts. had to put a note next to it at camp with simple directions. turn water on, add clothes, ad detergent, set up and hit start, walk out of the house for 15 minutes, if you think its not working pour yourself a drink and walk away. did i say its insanely noisy, beepy, chirpy

Replaced belt and every roller, spindle and brush pad in mine last week.
$50 Craigslist would have been cheaper. But it runs and sounds like new now. As a bonus, I had no leftover screws or bolts.lolThank you,DarianGalveston Texas -

@bhugg - don’t know what style LG you have but if I understand the code correctly it is not draining water. Right? Anyway my dryer wouldn’t drain either and after a bunch of trouble shooting it turned out to be the selector dial sensor was bad. It worked fine for everything except turning the drain pump on and actually had nothing to do with the pump. Just thoughts for ya. Dryers are typically easy to repair and unless the motherboard is dead it is cheap as well. Once it is opened, it is actually a bit underwhelming...I replaced the heating element once which I purchased from Amazon and the replacement was actually better quality than the original part and was spot in within resistance specs (better than original parts sold locally). The belt was fine but I replaced it while it was all open. I’m pretty sure it would last another 10 years.
Front load washing machines are a different beast, the drums are typically made from different metals which will eventually lead to heavy corrosion/weakness in some key components that eventually lead to failure, this is planned obsolescence for sure. It is true for Samsung and LG, apparently Bosch is not as bad. I’ll touch wood but my Samsung front load has been serving me well for over 10 years now but I know I have to start looking for a replacement.____________________Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage. •Niccolo Machiavelli -

When we first bought our house it didn't come with a washer or dryer. I found a set of commercial Amana washer and dryer on Craigslist for under a Benjamin. The washer hasn't given us a single issue in 9 years. The dryer goes through a belt every third year and we've replaced the drum rollers to keep it quiet. My wife has taken the dryer apart and replaced the belt the last two times. I can't complain.
A family friend has gone through two sets of washer/dryers since we've owned ours. They keep buying fancy ones with lcd touch screens. No thanks. They were built much better back then. In doing a lot of research before my last purchase of a dryer and washer, I found out that most of the Samsung products were essentially disposable because basic parts such as control boards were not available even just five years down the road. Unless you buy top of the line products these days (Speed Queen and a few others), you will likely only get seven years out of a washer and dryer now.Botch said:
