Just thought I’d share a hack that I love - to the extent that it may be useful to others.

When leather furniture starts to look grimy and dried out, it can help to use a cleaner/conditioner. When looking online, small bottles of 4oz or so are often $15-20 and up. Enter the humble hair conditioner. I bought a 1L bottle of unscented conditioner for $23 CAD. Apply liberally to your leather furniture using a soft cloth and it will absorb into the leather, cleaning, hydrating and restoring its sheen and soft feel. Only takes a few minutes and is well worth it, IMO. I try to do it yearly, when time permits.
Photos of the bottle, application and results below. The couch and chairs have seen daily use for 11 years and counting.

(I still get compliments on a new-looking leather jacket that I have owned and worn daily for half the year for a total of 20 years. Conditioner is the key.)

I don't like the way my sack sticks to the leather cushions.

If you stop giving it the ol’ bean shave, you’ll find the hair reduces the adhesion.HogFather said:I don't like the way my sack sticks to the leather cushions. -
Ya. But if he stops, hows he gonna make it look bigger??GrateEggspectations said:

I have a mask picture that would be perfect for the tangent on this thread. I shall resist posting since the thread provides cool home advice.Ruining Gaskets one cook at a time.

Shouldn’t this be in the Off Topic forum?"I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

And bury a gem such as this? Not likely. I am circumventing the Off Topic by just labelling posts “OT” when not cooking related. But now I’m just showing my hand and others will follow suit.JohnInCarolina said:Shouldn’t this be in the Off Topic forum? -
You don't have to wipe it off at all? No soapy residue after application?
I might try this.Thanks.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
@caliking: Nope and nope. Soaks in with time. I’m sitting on the chairs now. Velvety soft and no residue. Try it. You’ll be happy you did.

That is great insight and evidence right there. Thanks for that and the reminder that my whips and cat of nine tails need work as well

Do you have any experience using this method on automotive leather upholstery? Seems to be much less labour intensive than the saddle soap that has been my preferred method. Also, am confused by the label on your conditioner bottle. Are 32oz litres a Canadian standard? 😊LBGE, LBGE-PTR, 22" Weber, Coleman 413GGreat Plains, USA

Don’t have experience with car upholstery, but personally, my years of experience using hair conditioner on home furniture with great success would not give me a moment’s hesitation in using on my car.dbCooper said:Do you have any experience using this method on automotive leather upholstery? Bump for my own thread, because I’m sitting in my couch just now and am loving the soft feel resulting from the conditioner. So worth it.
