Reused lump tastes like ashtrays

I like to fancy myself some sort of environmentalist, but am also cheap, so try to reuse lump where possible. However, whenever I reuse lump, it gives off unpleasant smoke, even when mixed with new.
Anyone else find this?

I would avoid eating it if it tastes like ashtrays.______________________________________________I love lamp..

I’ve noticed acrid smoke/taste when refusing lump after direct chicken cooks. I now discard that lump. Everything else gets reused~ John - Formerly known as ColtsFan - https://www.instagram.com/hoosier_egger

I burn off the drippings and carry on. I have not had a pure bag of fresh lump in any of my eggs in about 12 months. Maybe I have become immune to the smell?
I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Never noticed that. I too believe it is the drippings_________________________________________________Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story!Large BGE 2006, Mini Max 2014, 36" Blackstone, Anova Sous Vide

Drip pan and a clean burn, problem solved. It's not the lump, it's grease.
