Coffee Grinder

Unfortunate accident took out the coffee grinder. Can you really taste the difference from the regular Blade grind to the Burr grind?

When I was into all the work of grinding my own beans and related stuff, I would have said a definite yes.
Just wondering what the accident was.XL BGE in San Jose, CA. Also a Pit Barrel Cooker, a Cal Flame P4 gasser, and lots of toys including the first ever Flame Boss 300 in the wild. And a new Flame Boss 500. -
Electric burr grinders are expensive, but beat a blade grinder hands down. Hario make an excellent hand burr grinder if you want a quality grind on the cheap.

Placed in cabinet this morning third shelf. Somehow 10 hours later wife say it fell when she opened cabinet. Suspiciously the bowl on said third shelf was also on cabinet. I’ll take it as opportunity to upgrade grinder rather than press on to what really happened.Yno said:When I was into all the work of grinding my own beans and related stuff, I would have said a definite yes.

You're pretty smart for a married guy.

I gotcha covered. Uses no electricity. Drawer can be used for all sorts of things. Knock out your morning exercise in about a minute. Says vintage all day long. PM me your address, you don’t need no stinkin new grinder.kdink said:

My grinder is problematic, in that you have to screw the lid in and hold it very tightly in place while it grinds (it should do it hands free). The slightest let up in the pressure used holding the lid in place will mean in stops working.Bought a new cheapo grinder on Amazon a few weeks ago. I boot it up and it seems to be working just great until about 15 seconds into the grinding, it starts smoking quite a bit. Thanks, but no thanks. Product returned.

I went through 5+ grinders before finding the right one for me. I had a static electricity problem which resulted in ground beans all over the countertop. First one was a blade grinder, the taste was fine if you managed to get the right grind size but I use a french press and SWMBO was consistently over grinding which resulted in bitter coffee. I finally settled on a Breville burr grinder which gives consistent grind size and quantity but apparently it is not the best for espresso. It mostly solved the static electricity problem. Breville Smart Grinder pro is the model, it looks like this:

How are you making the coffee? If you are just using a drip machine i dont think the grind matters as much. I use a french press so you need a burr grinder. I have had this one for atleast 5 years and it works good and is not that expensive. https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-DBM-8-Supreme-Grind-Automatic/dp/B00018RRRK/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?crid=T989SMJ3Q8IJ&dchild=1&keywords=burr+grinder&qid=1597592628&s=home-garden&sprefix=Burr+g%2Caps%2C648&sr=1-3-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzOTM1SE1QSFJVNUs3JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDg5OTU3MTRZTTVQOTBMOFg0MyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNTM2MDkyMk5GODFDOVBCMVJZMSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Burr grinder will give more consistent results when compared with the blade type. Because of this I'm of the opinion they impact taste for the better. This model has been trouble free for us in over 5 years of use...LBGE, LBGE-PTR, 22" Weber, Coleman 413GGreat Plains, USA

If you are grinding for each espresso pull individually; a burr grinder will be much better, but if you are grinding a bag at a time it really does not matter."Feed me, or feed me to something; I just want to be part of the food chain" Al Bundy

What I really need is a wife to get up and grind it for me. Dump in French press, add hot water and fix it like I like it. She don’t drink coffee......and don’t make no stinkin coffee either. Somehow I get by.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

Yes but. It won’t matter if you use crappy coffee and coffee maker. If you use good coffee water and brew correctly then a burr grinder will make a difference. This also assumes you are drinking coffee and not a hot sweetened milk drink with a little coffee flavor.Southeast Florida - LBGE

I have a cheap blade type but I only use it for making Mickey's coffee rub. Or at least a version of it, I grind coffee beans and black pepper corns with it.
