Green Mountain Pellet v. Egg

Longtime Egghead.    Former Longtime Egghead doesn't sound right.

I got the Green Mountain Big Grill.   Love it.   I have made the best butts I've ever made.   The best ham and baked beans I've ever made.   The best wings I've ever made.   I honestly don't know what I need my egg for unless it is to give to one of my sons.   I have a ton of accessories and I'm about to say to heck with it.    How long should I sleep on this big of a decision?

I have a large BGE and a Daniel Boone GMG I would keep both of them. The egg in my opinion is far superior for smoking and I absolutely love making pizzas on it. I use the GMG for brats and things of that nature. I enjoy the convenience of just plugging it in when I don't have the time to get the egg out.

Thanks for the advice.   I got the Daniel Boone as well.   I honestly won't light the egg....I'm going to re asses at New Years.

Likely you’ve just gotten better, not the cooker.......give the Egg another fly, you’ll see

I would keep it. Never know you might get tired of plugging in your grill. Also, if you have no power you can still light an egg

There is no more versatile cooker than a BGE. Plenty of ones out there that do some things well, but nothing that does so many different task quite well. Egg on!

Interesting.  I had the complete opposite conclusion with my Green Mountain Grill.  It cooked ok, just not as good as the eggs.  I sold it after 18 months.  But if you have found something you like, that is good.  I would keep the egg, let the shiny toy feature of that GMG wear off a little before letting go of it.

Timing is everything.  I recently took a risk and posted a thread here about pellet smokers as my son's SWMBO wanted one.  The forum (as always) was most insightful.  He bought one and today I had some pulled pork from his efforts and it was every bit as good and anything I could crank out.  He fired up the smoker at 3 AM and the electronics did its thing.  Around 5 PM all was finished and it was a great cook.
You can get great groceries regardless of the rig.  At some point it depends on the level of investment you personally want to make.
For me, if the rig requires electricity I will pass but for others and you just want great tasting food I get it.  FWIW-
