New thermoworks product. 1.4 miles line of site connectivity.

Should "guarantee" connectivity in the house. I didn't see anything about wifi.... By the way, this new equipment isn't surprising...I just bought a Smoke at Christmas.

That's usually how it works for me, too. Surprisingly, I wasn't the reason this time!SmokeyLopey said:Should "guarantee" connectivity in the house. I didn't see anything about wifi.... By the way, this new equipment isn't surprising...I just bought a Smoke at Christmas.

It’s $30 cheaper than the Signals with a better line of sight transmission, no WiFi, and Billows capable according to what I read....no app needed, but the app is nice when you aren’t home

What does "line of sight" mean in this context? Does that mean there can't be any obstructions between you and it?South of Nashville - BGE XL - Alfresco 42" ALXE - Alfresco Versa Burner - Sunbeam Microwave

Was hoping for something that compares with the competition but this is sadly a big disappointment from ThermoWorks.

Spec sheet goes into great detail about construction of your home, etc. basically I think it means you won’t need a Gateway to use it in your house like the old SmokeSonVolt said:What does "line of sight" mean in this context? Does that mean there can't be any obstructions between you and it? -
I thought “line of sight” meant well the obvious but I read their description and it said brick walls are not a problem. ConfusingSonVolt said:What does "line of sight" mean in this context? Does that mean there can't be any obstructions between you and it?South of Columbus, Ohio. -
Um, after reading the ad I think they meant 1.4 miles line-of-sight (no obstructions), and strong enough for anywhere in any house.
If the rechargeable battery I use with my Smobot could be used with the Billows (instead of an AC adapter), I'd be getting this. And immediately after, they'd release one with wifi, as several mentioned above."Hallelujah, Noel, be it Heaven or Hell,
The Christmas we get, we deserve"

Does that mean there can't be any obstructions between you and it?This device is not using the 2.4ghz WiFi/Bluetooth frequency band. Instead it is using the 915mhz band which has been used for many years for other purposes (pretty much whatever you want as this is one of the few unlicensed bands available). In general the lower the frequency the less likely that common house building materials will impede a signal. However, the range will be far less than the claimed outdoors/line of sight range. The 915mhz band is not going to be as "efficient" as the WiFi/Bluetooth band and you'll need to replace the batteries in thios new device as compared to the Smoke - Smoke-1800 hours, SmokeX-330 hours of battery life.Given the frequency band the new SmokeX is using it will not connect to your WiFi router and you won't be able to monitor a cook away from home nor control the Billows fan away from home.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K.
