Depends on what you are cooking. I like fruit woods for pork and poultry and oak or pecan for beef. Rockwood makes some quality chips and chunks.

I use pecan and peach primarily. When you open their box of peach, the aroma is incredible. I use peach for pork.Jcl5150 said:

The pecan is awesome. I use it mostly on beef or lamb. What a flavor. Did a brisket the past weekend, it is worth it just to smell the smoke while cooking."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

I still burn a lot of apple, but have to agree with Ron that pecan is my favorite.

Just saying weber brand chunks seem pretty good to me! I also bought a case of peach chunks from Rockwood they’re good too! Can’t get peach chunks that easy also heard good things of fruita but no personal experience“There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.”

Another vote for Fruita wood chunks. They have a tremendous selection and a very nice store in Grand Junction, Colorado. We have stopped there several times when on roadtrips to get some wood to take home.

Haven’t used Fruita. I have used the Rockwood chunks and they are the best I have used. I appreciate that it’s kiln dried as I used to buy local wood until the termites got to it in my garage. I like the size of their chunks. It’d call it a good sized nugget. It’s well sized for use in the smaller eggs.

I've got a whole peach tree that came out of my dads yard. Broke it down into manageable pieces. Next step is to split it and cut it into chunks. I'm excited to try it!South Central Kansas

Vaughn wood products sells some terrific smoking wood as well check them out. I have bought from them numerous times and its always good quality uniform pieces.

the last I heard, Bert still owns it. He was trying to sell it, but I don't think he found a suitable buyer. He has quite a store - anyone in the Grand Junction, CO, area should stop in and see his operation. Bert is a great guy and very helpful.billt01 said:does Bert still own the place or did he sell it?

Try another browser...Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

I see they sell bourbon and wine barrel chunks. Would those make a difference in the flavor profile or are they just gimmicks?

Who knows how to take a screenshot on a Mac? My "Help" menu, didn't, and I just learned something....
