I broke out the Flame Boss 200 for some Ribs I cooked yesterday while playing golf with friends that were coming over after playing #2 here in Pinehurst. I get everything set up and bam the freakin grate probe no workie, switch out with meat probe now registers HI temp. WTFO? I never got it to work so I'm in the market for new electronics for my Large. Any suggestions? OBTW, the ribs came out perfect, did it the old school way.

Signals/Billows works great for me so far. Don't forget to buy the adapter for the egg though.

Call FlameBoss. Their customer service is top notch. I think I had a simular issue a while ago, and they sent me a new head unit. Pretty sure I was out of the warranty period too.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

Just give them a call......they'll take care of it.

I called Flame Boss and they are sending out new probes. If that doesn't fix it then we'll move to the next step! Thanks for the help!Retired Navy, LBGE

That is some nice support from them!

i've destroyed my share of probes. i think it's a good idea to shield the cable from high heat - i wrap a little bit of AF around it to shield the part that's not about a stone. and have a backup on hand.Chicago, IL - Large and Small BGE - Weber Gasser and Kettle

If they are sending new probes, you should be back up like new. Their controllers are “battleships”, built to last. Top notch company!

Just got the new probes, no joy. Pit probe in the pit slot no joy, put it in the meat slot it works. It's a bad unit. Hopefully thy will stand behind their product! I think they will!!Retired Navy, LBGE

I bet its the contact on the pit probe socket to the circuit board. I have that happen to my unit. Pulled the four screws on the back, one drop of solder, and it's worked ever since.

Reviving an old thread due to similar problems tonight with mine. Neither probe worked initially, but I noticed that if I put a bend in the wire cables up close to where they connect to the box and angle it so they maintain a touch of pressure on that bend, I can get them to connect. Actually, I can't get the meat side to reliably stay connected, but I finally found just the right position for the more important pit one and will (fingers crossed) run with that overnight.stlcharcoal said:I bet its the contact on the pit probe socket to the circuit board. So, I'm wondering if I have 2 bad cables or perhaps the contact to the circuit board that you described? The "just so" positioning could easily be changing the pressure internally to make the contact.
It's hard for me to believe the cables have gone out based on the fact I've used them less the 6 times. But, I did buy the 200 Flame Boss set right after they were released, so it's been a few years. I just don't use it often. The cables have been stored uncrimped in a protected box in my garage. Temps do get over 100 in the summer here, but I wouldn't expect damage from that for cables designed for outdoor heat. They look brand new other than some soot on the area that goes inside the dome.
Happy to listen to any thoughts or suggestions. Annoying to get so few uses. Obviously, long out of warranty.Dallas (University Park), Texas -
Open it up and take a look. Otherwise, contact FB...
You'll probably be surprised.....in a good way. -
I might suggest the other way around - contact FlameBoss first, THEN open it up if you don't get a satisfactory response.stlcharcoal said:Open it up and take a look. Otherwise, contact FB...

Their customer service is wonderful. I had one of the early FB200's (#113, I think), and something similar happened to mine. Asked me to test a couple of things on the unit while were on the phone (took less than 10mins), and sent me a replacement. No bickering or fussing.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.
