I’m just about done staining my pressure treated wood deck and I can guarantee you my next one will be composite 😂____________________Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage. •Niccolo Machiavelli

If money isn't an issue, PVC composite decking is the way to go. (in my mind). 10 years ago we did wood based composite decking. Wood based composite fades up to 30% and PVC based has minimal fading. We still like our deck even though it has faded. We do need to power wash it every year , which is easier than staining, but not completely maintenance free.Grand Rapids , Mi

Have Trex on back deck of our lake house. It’s awesome. No splinters in your feet. Gotta be pre-drilled before applying screws.
-
I built my house in 2007 and installed trex.It has faded a bit but not enough that I regret it. I used what Home Depot kept in stock because it was considerable cheaper than having to order. I also used a fastening system that is installed from the bottom, no screws showing on top. I would definitely make the same decision again over treated lumber today. The new pressure treated lumber is junk.
I also ran my deck stringers on 12” center rather than the normal 16”. Trex recommended 12” on commercial applications, not sure if it was overkill or not but it doesn’t sag at all.
-
Love mine. Worth the $. Mines on 12" centers and in the shade. I can't speak for larger centers and in full sun if that's what your doing.
-
I have wolf - I thought it looked richer than trex

We used Ever Grain composite decking when we built this house 15 years ago. It’s a light grey color, and still looks new. I did run the treated stringers on 12” centers, and put it down with 2.5” stainless finish nails (nail gun). Barely can see nail dimples. Very happy with it!

I put Azek decking down it's PVC composite,be careful with Trex, my brother-in-law put it down on his deck and it faded, Trex is a wood composite unless now they changed it.
-
We put Trex decking on our deck about a year ago. The original pressure treated lumber was rotting through. As long as I can afford it, I will never use anything else in the future. It's fantastic, though a little pricy. As my son said when I told him I was thinking about the Trex he really encouraged me to do it, saying, "Buy once, cry once"!LBGE, MM, & Mini. Weber Smokey Joe for a knockabout.

Another vote for PVC. We did a Timbertech product 9 years ago and it holds up very well. The worry was condensation in the morning making it slick, and while there is sometimes some condensation in the morning, we have never had a slip issue. Would do it again for sure. Good luck.Eggin' with a Large and SmallTwin Cities, MN

My future deck will be fully exposed to sun pretty much all day. Any recommendations for that?

100% PVC, about six years ago. Just needs pressure washing every couple of years, raw-thah! Wish I'd gone with 12" centers, as stated above, instead of 16"....

Trex deck didn’t have a good reputation in this area. That’s why I went with Ever Grain. Much more solid product, and does not fade.

20 years with this Trex

That current composite decking is expensive. It will take a long time to pay for itself.Aledo, Texas

Most peoples' incomes go up as they grow older, as their joint flexibility goes down. The composite stuff looks better and better as you get older!Toxarch said:That current composite decking is expensive. It will take a long time to pay for itself.

I am sick and tired of maintaining my pressure treated deck. I expect I have another 3-5 years in it, and then I am definitely going with composite. Just not sure what type yet.Morristown TN, LBGE and Mini-Max.

Just got this trex installed in ipe color. Love it so far.

Trex has had some bad reviews in our area. We used Azek to build our deck about 10 years ago and it still looks great. The company that built our deck also made deck furniture out of Azek and it has been extremely durable.

How hot do the composites get in full sunlight?
My deck is in the sun from 10- 5 .
I have had people with composite decking that get a lot of sun tell me it gets to hot to walk barefoot on.LBGE, and just enough knowledge and gadgets to be dangerous .

Previously, my deck was cedar. Now I have a chestnut colored fiberon. I was quite surprised to find that my deck now is 6-8 degrees cooler than the cedar.Markarm4119 said:How hot do the composites get in full sunlight?

We have done our front porch and rear deck in composite. I used 2 different manufactures...name eludes me now...we used the hidden stainless clips on 12” centred joist which leaves a nice finish with no holes exposed. Yes the deck does get hot but in my opinion not a lot hotter then the grey PT deck on previously. Definitely want something on your feet when its in full sun. At 58 I hope this is the last time I need to work on either....other than cleaning.Ontario, Canada
