OT Kitchenaid mixer meat grind attachment

I’m looking to get a meat grinder attachment for my kitchen aid mixer. I have just a standard artisan. Which one do you folks recommend?

Buy a stand alone grinder. Even a cheap Sale model from Cabellas or Academy will do a better job for about same price

Yup, get a stand alone ...are you going to get into the sausage fray? As someone deep in that rabbit hole mine started with looking at the attachments for my kitchenaide pro and wound up getting a much better stand alone @ harbor freight for less money....if you are planning on sausage your next step is a stand alone stuffer......if you just want to grind some meat and don't want a another gadget, look at the attachment by sausage maker for kitchenaide

I have this one, works ok for small batches. Only used a few times, not very sturdy when mounted to mixer, I feel like it's going to break off under light pressure. If I were going to grind more than 4 or 5 times a year I would purchase a stand alone.

I have the KA branded one (FGA). Probably used it half a dozen times in 10+ years. The coarse die isn't very coarse, but for my needs, it's been ok (and I don't have to store yet another appliance). Lately, I just pulse stuff in my food processor. Nice when I want a really coarse grind... I quit pulsing when it is to my liking.

However, the Harbor Freight grinder (stuffer included) is only $55 and their website has a 20% off coupon good thru 6/16. Don't know if it's any good or not (it's Horrible Freight after all).

PS: By most accounts, the KA stuffer attachment (SSA) absolutely SUCKS for stuffing.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I have the Smokehouse Chef all metal grinder attachment. It’s okay for an occasional 5lb of sausage but that’s about it. It is far superior to the KA product as well. Stuffing casing with a KA attachment style unit sucks because the outlet is so high above the countertop. It takes two hands to hold the sausage so stuffing becomes a two person process. Highly recommend getting a 10lb stuffer. I have the 5lb stuffer and truly regret not getting the 10lb. It’s a helluva lot easier to put 5lb of sausage in a 10lb stuffer over 5lbs in a 5lb stuffer. The stuffer outlet on these is at the bottom at countertop level. Infinitely easier to use over the clumsy KA attachments.

I have the same one as RLS posted above. It works fine for doing occasional burgers but if I were going to use it more regularly I would go with a stand alone. I haven't tried sausages yet and from the posts above that is a good thing apparently.

If you do buy the KA add-on style make sure you buy one that is dishwasher safe because cleaning that thing manually would be a huge pain in the ass.

Thanks for the comments. Sounds like I’ll head to Cabelas, academy, or harbor freight and check stand alone ones out.

There's a Harbor Freight in Rowlett. In case you didn't know. :)

The kitchenid grinder okay,  I am glad I didn’t buy a stand alone because I haven’t been grinding as much as I thought I would.
The stuffer is terrible, I just use the lem gun.
