Austin Area Egghead Meetup June 6th

Austin Peeps- We have forum royalty headed into town on Thursday June 6th for a stop on his "Brisket-geddon World Tour 2.0". Thought I would be fun to get together, break some bread, twist a few lids, and lie to each other in person for a change.

If you are around, save the date and let's have some fun. This will be an evening affair.

Details to follow.

Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting.  The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president.

Hotch and Shelly are doing a Sucklebuster's demo at Tri-Supply, on East Hwy. 71, on Saturday.  We plan to stop by there to see their demo, then the four of us will head to Matt's El Rancho and get there around 3:15.  It would be great if y'all could join us there!!  I'll text you.

I can certainly appreciate lake time!  If you don't mind, just let me know sometime Friday about Saturday.  If you can't meet us this weekend, we'll meet another time, soon, at Matt's.  Always worth the hour and twenty minute drive into Austin, and we'd love to see y'all!

I was gonna PM @The Cen-Tex Smoker but since this thread surfaced, I am in Fredricksburg tonight playing tourist (Nimitz Museum Tues AM).  Staging for Salt Lick Weds AM and then rolling into Austin Weds.  Thurs is a go from my perspective.  Serious brisket bender starts Weds.  Today Valentinas in the Am followed by Smitty's market in Lockhart.  Tune up and outstanding visits.  FWIW-
Headed to Bean Town in the am then back Wednesday night. Ready to roll Thursday.

How did you like smittys? That’s a new one for you correct?

Smittys was well worth it if only because of timing.  Got there around 30-45 minutes before the briskets were ready to come off the pits.  Spent a few minutes with the meat market manager and then the pit master.   Rode along as he was checking the briskets for "the feel" in the flat.  Same finish line as we try to nail.  His metal probe tester was a larger diameter then any temperature probe I generally use.  Thus even more cooking to get "the feel".  Briskets were in the 11-13 lb weight range.
Fresh off the pit, it had good texture and was quite tasty but not as "smooth" or flavorful as Valentinas.
BTW- quite a fire pit set-up with the open post oak burn then draft thru the pit.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

That’s a cool experience! Lockhart bbq has fallen quite a ways behind their big brother to the North (Austin) but I think Smitty’s is a cool place. I would have loved to get that inside access.

Question for you Texans.....is it possible to make this event (6th) and be back to DFW for a 3:30 flight? My guess is prolly no....but I do have the day open and happen to be in Dallas.

On a good day from Austin to DFW airport is going to be 3 hours 15 min.  Depending on when you leave Austin/ Arrive in DFW it could easily be 4+ hours with Traffic.  Heck if your in S Austin and try and go North at wrong time of day that alone can be over an hour.

  • Deep Eddy Cabaret at 6pm tomorrow night for all interested. They don’t have food but coldest beer in town. We can move on from there if we want to grab a bite.

I'll be there.  Somehow I may not need much in the way of food by then but you never know.  Thanks for setting this up.
