Has anyone ever used this? A buddy gave it to me, never seen it before.

They come in what look like pressed logs. Not sure how many I need to burn.

When we were living in Indonesia (island of Sumatra) I had a hard time getting charcoal (using briquettes at the time in a Weber). I would buy the local coconut charcoal when I flat couldn't find anything else, but found it too acrid and hard to light.

Yep used it
The only advantage is the uniform size and predictable heat output
They take a while to start but are pretty good when you get them going
Too costly to ship boxes of this stuff so i went more sustainable and use mesquite off my trees -
I've bought a couple of boxes extruded coconut charcoal, but not this brand. No white ash on the food from what I've used. What I've had is really hard to light. Very high carbon content, and needs more heat to kindle.Vent settings for common lump produce higher temperatures. And hot spots can be a problem. So, harder to use, but burnt very clean, and little ash.
