had the egg to about 1000 degrees accidentally tonight...is that ok?  I was getting coals ready for steak/pork chops cooked on the coals, shut the lid with top and bottom open...when I came out, the BGE dome thermometer was around again at 200, going by the 800 degrees mark, on its way back around.

It's fine. You do need to recalibrate your thermometer now.

@tbru So how did that cook turn out? You definitely had the base for a good sear.

Mine made it all the way past 300 one time. A little freaky, but no damage at all. Even the gasket was fine...

Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

@Sammi Steaks on the coals the other night with my brother, a fellow Egger, teaching us; Brined Pork chops and Potatoes tonight...chops on the coals, potatoes par-boiled and then roasted on the top rack on my XL Woo/Adjustable Rig indirect heat above the half stone.  The steaks were amazing and flavorful.  We decided to try it on pork chops tonight...they were very flavorful and very good, as well!

Meat on the baking sheet below are the pork chops.

@newEGGlandah Thank you for your help on the calibrating...does it for sure have to be done or just a good idea?  :)

Do you have to calibrate it to cook in the egg? No.

If you want to know the temperature of the dome, then it would be a good idea.
