Great outcome, for sure. Congrats on taking up the challenge and delivering the results. Food looks outstanding.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -
Congrats! It looks like you guys had a fun time. Glad to hear the weather stayed away for the most part.

Not really, its a buddys old rusty smoker, it actually needs some work and the trailer was barely road worthy but we made it there.

Agreed. I have a friend that cooks comp regularly. He checks out the judges and modifies accordingly. If there are women judges, he’ll go more sweet.

we did go sweeter than planned but the test cook came out really good so we went for it. we know that going in next year and will be a little more prepared.

With any competition, i think you learn by the experience. Myself, i have only participated in a few Chile cook-offs, that were driven by proceeds going to a good cause. That is what drove my / our cooks. I think you take your position and be pleased with your results. Keep trying and learning.....and by all means, go for greatness.

Great showing. Any call is good, especially getting call in your first competition.
Not surprised on the People's choice. Typically, "competition BBQ" isn't what most of us would consider good BBQ. Just a different world. I have won first in people choice before, but not placed well.
Good point on scouting the judges. I got second in the dessert category to a guy that made the exact same dessert. We talked, the difference was he used double the sugar I did. The judges were all women.

Second the opinion on people's choice vs. judging results. I've not participated in an Q competitions before, but have competed in chili competitions. My white chicken chili took home the people's choice award, but didn't even place in the competition itself.

Great result and some good looking Q. Congrats.

@Kent8621 nice showing! We're still licking our wounds a bit. Exact same chicken recipe that got us 3rd last year, got us 47th this year. Had a blast though, and will of course be back next year.
