Advice needed for an Easter ham
Hi Guys,
just found out I am going to my parents for Easter, anyone have a recommendation for a good ham? I would prefer a heat and serve, spiral cut or not does not matter to me.... I will not use honeybaked Ham... last year I picked one up only to reheat and found out it was a turkey breast mislabeled, never again.... If I order by tomorrow I think I could get it in time...... Thanks in advance!

The ones in the red foil at Costco are pretty good. Throw them in an oven bag, then finish with some apricot preserves boiled down with brown sugar, dijon, etc. I have one in my fridge right now!

Wherever you land 140*F is the finish-temp. Nail that and it will be great. I have found injecting maple syrup into a spiral sliced ham when cooking delivers a great outcome. FWIW-
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -
I looked at recipes on here. Found a “glaze” to use on a spiral for Xmas (Costco special). Cooked it standing on the flat side on my egg. 300° till it reaches 140 IT. Absolutely delicious

This is for next year: I'm a huge fan of Harrington Hams, out of Vermont. (their schtick is "corncob-smoked", some have denigrated corncobs for smoke but these hams, dayam! )
Don't think you could get one in time for this Easter, and I'll be watching this thread as I have no idea what "local" hams are any good myself (I'll probably be having Spaghetti-O's, WITH franks since its a holiday) 😎

Hey guys,
If I order tomorrow, any perishable will hit Chicago by Friday so I'm good on time. I wouldn't mind a boutique ham, sure I could pick up a Smithfield ham, Smithfield is a great product here in the midwest. The question I have is, my parents are 75, in the little time they have on earth I would like to WOW them so I would like the best of the best. Hell, they have put up with my B.S. for 48 years, not to mention my bride and kids. As time goes by, I want the best food as these holidays should be perfect all around... As I am traveling to them, unfortunately I can't use my BGE....
As far as next week (Greek Orthodox) Easter (my wife's Easter) I have that covered, I have a whole lamb on reserve with R.D. I get to celebrate 2 Easters.... not a bad time of yesr!

We cook a Sams or Walmart spiral cut ham every Easter (purple foil wrap), and it comes with a pkg of glaze. Everyone rants how good the ham is. Easy peasy!

I have ordered a PIT Ham from Compart Duroc. Should be here on Wednesday.
They ship on Monday’s and Tuesday so if you ordered one tomorrow you would have it on Thursday.

Here’s a recipe from SRF...I’ve had the Kurobota Ribs and really enjoyed.

Funny you should mention this... I pulled the trigger at SRF yesterday... How was the ham? Worth $119?

I’ve only tried the Ribs and Brisket so can’t attest to the Ham. I was surfing their site and came across the recipe and thought of you.

The SRF ham was really good. Man time flies...this was 4 years ago:
I got it for 1/2 price ($79 for the whole ham).
One thing to keep in mind is it will be frozen solid. I defrosted in the fridge for 3 days and I think it was still not quite defrosted. No big deal...just took a little longer to reheat.
I loosely followed this recipe:
Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
Straight up Sugar Maple Smoke. Nothing else!!
ask @Mickey

I thank you kind sir, I was a little worried that it would be "just ok" after spending $130 with shipping... That certainly looks awesome! I'll try the recipe you provided and get back to you....

Not enough time before Easter to do this one, but I really like Steven Raichlen's twist on a ham.

I may just make that whiskey orange glaze for something, anything.
