The service tech did not identify any issues with the return plenum, evaporator coil, or condensate drain pan. Only issue identified was mold growing on the outside of the ducts and indicated it was penetrating the ductwork from the inside of the ducts. If the ducts are so bad that mold is penetrating it over a widespread area, shouldn't the ducts be replaced? How often do you find a clean return plenum, evaporator coil, and condensate drain pan and have heavy mold in the ducts?Southeast Florida - LBGE
In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
We inspect coils and annually ...If the filtration is at the unit VS the intake grill the return plenum can get dirty...in my area, most systems are filtered right @ the return grilljtcBoynton said:The service tech did not identify any issues with the return plenum, evaporator coil, or condensate drain pan. Green Grass Areas can benefit from UV lights keeping the coils and pans clean, the duct should never get moldy BUT we do see it

Thanks for the info! My buddy has one that he swears by also. Just thought I'd solicit more opinions.milesvdustin said:I have an air scrubber plus with a regular media filter, the air bear. I thought the scrubber was a joke until I tried it. Gets the dust out like crazy and kills odor. I've had mine a year now, I'll always have one. If you or anyone In the house is sensitive to ozone, ask for the non ozone cell. Still kicks ass.
I have a central heat pump system with the inverter compressor, a trane xv20. It's awesome. (I used to do sales for HVAC so I got good prices on my stuff. Expect to pay around a grand for an air scrubber. Cost on them is like 400 bucks or less.)
