Never tried it but get the sense this brand causes some sort of triggering for some.   :dizzy:
I have only followed this forum for a few years - any idea why this lump is controversial?
It was the form of delivery. @henapple

It was one of the top if not the top most neutral flavored lump available. The kicker was it was about .50/pound. Hard to beat for flavor/price.

If it’s the same quality as before and 20 lbs for $12 those that can get it should stock up. Wish I could get it here.

Well - I don't think it was a matter of controversy - the demise of the plant was cloaked in mystery. When I tried to find out what was going on I found a Yellsville blog that revealed that little town was a Peyton Place and some people were dealing drugs and so and so was "sleeping around" and on and on! It really got funny!!!

Here we go - but it looks like the blog itself has been discontinued but some of our banter still exists.

No clue and really don’t care but if I were the owner of a company that sold things related to this forum I’d probably keep my comments to a minimum.

Not sure how this stuff compares, but the Ozark Oak I burned when it was still available was the only stuff I've used the rivals Rockwood.

Both @NPHuskerFL and myself got flat cussed out when we tried to call and order a pallet during the takeover. It was the first time I was cussed out in drunken Arkansan.  Pretty funny, should’ve recorded it.

I used around 4-5 10 lb bags of OO before it ceased several years ago.  I found that there was more of a smoke profile with it than the Wicked Good Weekend Warrior I was also using at the time.  Since then OO went submerged and undetected for a few years, WGWW had some serious (since corrected) quality issues and up jumped Rockwood.  No turning back here.  FWIW-
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

Been using for a month or two since temporarily up in the Tulsa area, found it at Harp's in springdale ark, 20lbs bags $11.94 and 10lbs bags $6.94. I emailed Royal Oak and told me Harp"s only to carry and is made at the same plant, just what centex was told. Seems to be the same stuff.
Man oh man, I’d love to get quality lump for $12 a bag.

That’s BS. Nothing against Rockwood but you could hear the cling sound the OO made when you poured it in cause it was fully done. Never heard it from any other lump.

The only 2 types of lump I ever heard clink when poured are Rockwood and OO.

You cropped the picture! We need to see the strip at the top.  There was an issue with some of the questionable OO, the strip was a different color.

Zero complaints my way for Rockwood.
I agree, but 20lbs bags $11.94 for the new OO if it's even close to the old stuff is a great buy.

I have only followed this forum for a few years - any idea why this lump is controversial?
It's not controversial, it was great lump at a very good price. For what ever reason they stopped selling to the pubic or shut down depending on who's telling the story. Irrelevant honestly. Now it's back on the market with the quality being questioned.
I have 10-12 bags of the original stashed away. I'm not a lump snob. I buy decent stuff when it's on sale but have to admit the old OO was a great clean burning lump. Easily in my top 3 of the brands I have tried.
    Thank you,
