Did you give them one? Bc, I would have been annoyed.MNEggerandStuff said:I think the only feeling worse than not being prepared would be my neighbors. They have a generator and yet were calling everyone they could think of to see if they could borrow one. Apparently they buried it in the back of the garage this summer and didn't want to put the battery back in the collector car and try to back it out into the snow to try and get to it.
9 degrees here now, down to -4 in the morning with stupid cold wind. Steaks turned out good tonight; really wanting to get some ribs for tomorrow. Bring it! -

I intentionally left my car outside to see if it would start this morning. I figured that would dictate if my car would start later on today at work. She started but wasn't very happy. Now I need to decide if I actually want to go into work.....JohnInCarolina said:JFC

I put everything away on Thursday. We have had snow every other day and now the cold has set in. But, Friday is up to 18 and 30's over the weekend. Steaks, burgers, and a turkey are all thawing.

Ya this is the time of year when I usually blow a power steering hose or something. Only one of my vehicles has a block heater so the other has been parked in the garage at night, which really helps get things corroding with all the salt that's everywhere. This a.m. after opening the door the interior lights wouldn't shut off or the door control for the windows/locks wont work either. Should make for another fun filled evening after work -

I actually bought a size generator bigger than I needed and an extra Heater in case a neighbor needed something. Luckily all of our power came back on together.Dwdude102 said:

For everyone like me who has been THINKING of a backup generator for years. Just do it now! I was lucky, if it had been 10pm when it went out and it stayed out until morning, the house would have been an ice cube with water pipes frozen by morning.

I can't egg overnight, because it's been down into the 40s and I couln't possibly survive at that temp.

Fortunately my kitchen has plenty of heat sources. There'll be plenty of time for Egging
We're in Virginia, not Michigan, but it's still butt cold and it feels nice inside. -
Well...it's -17 here in Chiberia and the ribs are on! This has gone a whole lot easier than I thought. Dome temp is holding nicely although the bottom damper is open about 1 1/2" (normally it's 1/4"). I did take it easy lighting the lump and kept the propane only on the center of the lump. There is a constant breeze making the windchill like -30 something.

Still a few hours away from -30 but I fired up the small for a couple wimpy looking chops. They will be cubed up for Cuban stuffed pickles tomorrow.
We had a couple "feels like" -60 spots in MN this morning. I even received a text from our cable provider saying they were turning on all their "hot spots" for safety purposes. Pushing -30's tonight but will start to warm up tomorrow afternoon. Rumor of 40's this weekend. Got to love Minnesota weather.

I won a cold weather throw down a couple years ago for doing a brisket when it was -11.
I haven't been much into the cold weather to grill much this winter. Going to fire up for my first attempt at Canadian bacon on Saturday though.
I have a part time job that I do from home, so I choose to do that this week instead of freezing in the van the has a horrible heater. Supposed to be decent on Friday, so I'll go paint a bathroom. Freezing rain and snow on Monday, I think I'll stay home work the part time job.... -

The cook in the cold is awesome, a company deciding that your home is now a free hot stop at will, that is not.Mediacom wanted to upgrade my equipment about 6 months ago, I said okay but only wired communications. They said we need to do wifi between the router and the DVR, I pushed back and they finally relented that there was a cable they could use instead but I would have to pay $40 for it. I was the old, I am not paying $40 for that and in the end they let me cancel the premium cable service that included movie channels that I was paying way to much for and drop down to a internet only plan that actually had way more data per month and faster speeds than I had before for about $60 a month. I have no idea how that was a good business decision for them but it's worked out great for me. Better internet and now better TV via an IPTV provider for way less money and them not having control of any equipment in my house.
I'm putting ribs on the grill tomorrow just cause now

Two years ago Xfinity was charging me $90/month for high speed Internet and some terrible basic cable package. We tried for high speed Internet only but Xfinity said they don't offer high speed Internet by itself. It had to be packaged. After a year I called back and asked for their best value on high speed Internet. Again we had to package cable and Internet together. Xfinity offered the same $90/month package but would reduce our speed by half. "So your telling me your best offer is what I'm paying now and reducing my speed by half?" The employee said that was the best option he could offer. Without cursing I sternly said that wasn't going to happen. I politely hung up and told my wife what just happened.MNEggerandStuff said:WeberWho said:Still a few hours away from -30 but I fired up the small for a couple wimpy looking chops. My wife calls back 2 minutes later and gets the same exact package we have had for the last year. Go figure. What a bunch or Johnsons.
We called last week to see what our best options were. With some back and forth with Xfinity we were able to drop the basic cable to just high speed Internet. Our bill went from $90 to $60. The only time I've been somewhat happy with Xfinity in the last 8 years.

Right now, I'm cooking air. Furnace is pushed to the limit, house temp dropping, so I'm running the stove for xtra heat.Went out yesterday just long enough to brush the snow off the bench next to one of my Eggs. Put out bird seed and bread crumbs. Hustled back inside. If the forecast is correct, in 72 hours, the temp should be 69F higher than right now.

Yes. -21 on the deck this morning and I'm not going outside. It's supposed to warm up this weekend though.Michiana, South of the border.

It was -3°F when I got up this morning but I ignored it and did my cook anyway. Just took three racks of baby backs off the Egg. Up to +13°F now, so it warmed up considerably.
I'm very lucky to have my Egg just two feet outside the family room door, on a concrete patio and under a covered overhang.Cincinnati, Ohio. Large BGE since 2011. Still learning. -
