On a serious note I just oiled my custom board with the boos board conditioner. This stuff works but it has way too much wax in it. I ran it in a tub under hot water for 30 minutes since it was so thick the first time I tried it and it never turn d to liquid. It leaves a residue that you can’t get off. I’m sure it protects the board fine but it’s a pain to use. I used the stuff the guy that made my board sent the first 5 years and it’s so much better it’s like 80/20 oil to wax when the boos is like 40/60 oil to wax so it soaks in so much better and doesn’t leave a residue. The boos crap I oil it and let it sit over night then spend a half hour trying to get the crap that’s left off the other oil takes like 5 minutes total. This is what my board looks like with the boos conditioner I just ordered a smaller 12”*13” board that should be ready in a week or 2 I’m gonna order 5 bottles of his oil with this board. The guys on Etsy his shop is greenriverwoods if you want to get a bottle it’s way better than the boos stuff IMO. Congrats on the new board.

I've never had much luck with waxes either... I can always taste the residue whenever meat juices start pooling.

@botch If you run a board like that through a jointer or surface planer, it will straighten out.  But it will bow in the opposite direction when it (and if it) dries out.  I have dealt with this issue on a few boards and our cutting board table.
Well, as I mentioned, it's butcher-block style (the grain runs vertically) and jointing/planing/hand-planing it will tear the edges up.  That's why I'd like to go with the large belt sander (but, as you mentioned, that might cause it to warp the other directions).

You are right about planing an end grain board.  You can get away with it sometimes, but when it goes bad, it goes REAL BAD.

Belt sander, drum sander...fine, but if you work unstabilized wood, it will end poorly once that wood moisture does stabilize insofar as warping.

Thanks I really like it. Can’t even tell it has 6 years of use on it. I have a smaller 12”*13” that should be here in the next week or so from the same guy I can’t wait to get it.
