Barbecued a steak at -13F

Felt like a steak tonight but didn’t quite feel man enough to handle the logistics of loading up the Egg, etc. in the -13F weather. It is situations such as this that call for the lowly gasser - in this case, a Napoleon P500RSIB with infrared side burner. Figured a quick grilling would be nothing after having made a 7-min walk to the gym in only a sweatshirt and pants at -27F (!!!) this morning.
Gave the steak a quick sear and then placed it on the regular burners ‘til it hit the medium-rare zone.
Used the Vitamix for a quick portobello, leek, onion and garlic soup. The colour is not glamorous, but the taste and texture were great. (For those of you who routinely make soup in the Vitamix, add cottage cheese or Greek yoghurt for added protein content and creaminess.)
A little red for good measure.
Thanks for looking.

I don’t know how you do it, I hate winter and I live in FloridaJacksonville FL

Where you at? We've had an extremely mild winter here so far in Northern Ontario. I think we hit 0F only once so far. Lots of snow, but extremely mild. Normally we hit the spot where C and F meet (-40) once a year, but so far so good, lots of time left though

Yum!

That’s an impressive gas grill to be running at -13!

@poster: Lucky you re: the mild temperature, though it sounds like you will have earned it once you experience one of those -40 days you describe. I’m in the Ottawa area.
@cookingdude555: Frankly, I was very surprised at how well it performed in that kind of cold. The infrared side burner, which is not closed in with any sort of lid, is reportedly capable of putting out 1800F. It seared my steak beautifully and extremely quickly. It is the reason I bought this model of grill. -

Just finished snow blowing walks and driveways from last nights storm, so it’s a porterhouse, twice baked potatoes, and corn on cob tonight.

@littlerascal56: Very nice. Where are you at?
