My new MiniMax is outdated - seeking advise

Hello forum, it appears my MiniMax that my wife got me for Xmas has been on the shelf a couple years. It has the old carrier handles that I read mothership will send updated ones.  My issue is that it has the small egg fire ring as it's .75" from the top of the base.  I was looking foward to getting the woo ring but CGS no longer supports this version.  Should I just sear away till it cracks?  Is there any benefit to having the lower fire ring?  Also is the grid supposed to float on top of the fire ring?

If they are a good dealer, they will make the switch. If they don’t I would reach out to the mothership. Bruce might be able to help give it a push.

It’s possible I have an old style woo sitting around our shop. I’m in Florida now but am flying back tomorrow. If you want, PM me and I’ll look.

Take it back and demand a current model, especially if they got current model pricing and no disclaimer.    If the dealer won't move then contact BGE HQ and explain the situation.  Worst place you will end up is where you are.  FWIW-
very much agree with the Good Captain here. If you paid full pop, you should get the new model. I'm pretty sure It's been out 2+ years now.
You are correct....got one of the first (new) in December of 16.

  • Did these retail for $649.00 before? I skillfully removed the 599.00 sticker to reveal the original one...  Gonna call them in the AM to see what they have to say.  I have a feeling the display one was the old style as well. Pretty sure the large eggs still had the daisy wheels. Other than eggfests, I don't think they sell many eggs.

Bummer, I was looking forward to searing up steaks..

What’s the difference on the internals?
The new fire ring goes down in the base 1.5" instead of .75". I also think it has a little more of a diameter to it.  The new placesetter has longer legs as well.  I'm thinking they did this to create more air gap for bringing the temp up quicker.

Your response is greatly appreciated.  I really do not want to exchange even if they would have a new one.. Mine was the last one in a box. My large was a demo egg and I had several things to address when I got it home..

BTW, Did your dealer help you out concerning what you paid for it?  I'm afraid they might try to charge me the $649.00 from the other sticker LOL... It's disconcerting that they just put a new sticker over the old one...

  • I didn’t deal with the dealer at all on the issue. It was a gift, so I didn’t have any sway on a price adjustment (or even know if my wife got a deal). I just got directly in touch with Bruce from BGE HQ, and he sent the new ring.

Seriously, you need to exchange for the new model, that has all of the new style parts. Bands, rEGGulator cap, etc.  You will have this thing for years.  Do yourself a favor and get what you paid for.

I’m holding my dealer to provIde the Acacia Eggmates I ordered, vs the composite ones they brought me.

You shouldn’t have buyers remorse because your dealer tried to move old product from his warehouse.

    Kenny,

Yeah, I just looked at the pic of the current model.  Bands and cap changed too. Will be in touch with the dealer in the morning.. Appreciate the feedback, thanks..

Maybe @DMW could give you some direction with a dealer in the area. I'd assume your location has something to do with your forum name. It might be worth looking into other dealers for more current inventory.

Appears I should have broadened my search further, top tier there.. Lancaster BBQ Supply had come up, but was not on BGE's dealer map. Dealer I purchased from was gold status, but I am thinking this just has to do with how big of a display they have to maintain.. I'll find out tomorrow.

They would help with a warranty claim if you have original receipt. Not sure they could process a swap, but worth asking.

My old MiniMax is still outdated. It has the short fire ring, platesetter, and the older carrier. Doesn't bother me since I also have a Large. Bought it at an eggfest the year after they were announced. The dealer who held the fest said I could bring the 'cracked ceramics' back for replacement when I noticed the differences at his store.  Since they aren't cracked, have not made the claim - yet. Even with all the old accessories, the Minimax is still a fun cooker.  Was up your way on vacation a long time ago visiting family way east of you in Nazareth and Easton. Might want to add your city to your signature so that question doesn't get asked again.

  • Just got off the phone with the dealer, they are going to make it right..

I had called Meadowcreek prior.  Matt is willing to help me if need be.

I bought one of the original MM. I finally got around to updating. My dealer charged me $40 for the new style fire ring. I also warrantied the handles and they gave me the entire frame. Now I need to get over to CGS for some internals....
