Wooden egg mates, be careful with the weight
mackers
Posts: 11
Hi all, just installed my new wooden egg mates on a Medium. Placed the medium conveggtor on one of the mates... snap! A mate screw just broke in half because of the conveggtor weight!

So be careful what you put on them. They don't seem to be too sturdy.

You must have had a defective bolt. That’s not typical by any means. It’s a good PSA to check the bolts on the nest and mates.

Agreed. The US was fighting a counterfeit bolt issue, hardware coming out of China but ordered that way by unscrupulous US middlemen, but I thought that had been cleared up. I hate seeing this.
Counting to ten only makes it Premeditated.

Yeah I’ve abused mine for well over a decade without incident. Hopefully someone can make it right for you. Bolt shouldn’t break under that sort of weight. Not even close.

What's the chance you over-tightened the bolt and cracked it? I have had 20 lbs sitting on mine with no issues .. But on a large~ John - Formerly known as ColtsFan - https://www.instagram.com/hoosier_egger

Thank you all for your comments. It's good to know that the conveggtor weight should not be a problem at all. Yes, I may have over-tighten the bolts during installation so warranty is probably void.
Just ordered a new set of bolts from a local BGE dealer. I will replace all the other bolts as well, just to be sure. -
Always curious but too lazy to look up: what is the recommended max weight?Boom

Couldn't find this anywhere as the mates didn't come with a manual or other documentation.FanOfFanboys said:Always curious but too lazy to look up: what is the recommended max weight?
