Question - How Much Ribs, Chicken, Sausage For 25 Adults?

A last minute request if I could smoke ribs, chicken, and sausage for 25 adults. I was told sides are covered.

I'm thinking:

6 to 8 Racks of Ribs
15 Chicken Breasts
10-12 Sausage Links. Not sure what type of sausage yet. (Any commercial brand recommendations?)

Does this sound like way too much or way too little?

Thanks for the input

  • I would smoke some thighs, but that's just a personal preference

That's probably plenty.  I usually overshoot by 100% or more - so I'd probably have a sausage link for each person.

I personally like Johnsonville original brats and anything by Kiolbassa - if you have it available near you.

Upon further review- ribs are easy to cut into "individual" portions.  8 racks = around 1/3 rack/person.  The chix, I like @milesvdustin's idea or legs.  For me @Foghorn hit the sausage link quantity if only so people aren't cutting one in half to ensure enough portions to go around.  FWIW-
BTW- that's a great compliment on your Q'ing.  Have fun.

All men or mixed company? Will alcohol be involved?

Mixed. This is for a friends friend. My guess would be for the Vikings/Packers game. Sides are being covered by them. So it's kind of hard to figure out amounts with me being in charge of just the meats.

    We decided on:

    8 racks
    Drummies (I'd imagine 30+)
    24 Sausages

    Thanks again guys!

    Well done.
