How Do You Clean The Inside Walls Of Your Egg?

Did my Annual on the Egg last night, vac'd it all out etc, the walls are a bit tarred up from all the burns on the Egg.

Just wondering how do you clean the walls on your egg? Thats if you even bother?.....Or do a High Heat 'Oven Clean' burn on it to burn it off.....just wondering at what safe temp you can burn off the junk

  • Light a fire, let er rip. I don’t go much over 550-600 (I found that’s where it starts to burn out the goo) but some people open it all the way up and let it wrap the thermo around. I’m doing that as we speak before throwing the bird on in a bit (we are eating later today)

Just bake a 6-700° pizza from time to time.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Most of the time for me it’s the end of a cook where I’ll open it up and let it burn the rest of the lump.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

600 and walk away for a while (or until the the white smoke clears up). Could take a couple of hours or less depending on how much buildup you have.

I guess if the stuff was falling on the food I would do something about it but not the case (or I fail to recognize).  FWIW-

Burn baby burn. Pizza is great for clean burn, might smoke the felt gasket but it will be clean
You can’t get to Loganville, Ga from anywhere. You have to start somewhere else
  • Just remember to put a lining of aluminum foil on the gasket before any real high burns. Last one I did caused the gasket to fuse together and I had a hard time getting the Egg open again.

  • Brush off the inside with a stiff brush the rest is all flavor
  • So ive had a burn going of 650-850F for about an hour now, I opened the egg and there was still 'skin' of soot in there, so I used a wire brush and closed her back up, there was some black goo on the walls on fire which was nice to see, and the metal lid was full of 'tar/goo' so I put it inside the grill to burn off any crap left on it....
More white smoke than when the Pope was announced lol

Mine purges white stinky smoke until it’s clean. Once ended up with a almost new looking firebox, whiter than had been in a year.

I'm glad you brought this up. I will add wall cleaning to the clean burn I've been meaning to do for the last 20 years.
