Best temp controller?

Yeah it's pretty close, the screw placement might just need to be changed. There's a spring that keeps that slider in place, so that might be the only bummer about having to take the top off. It would be kind of cool if it worked with the umbrella too.mEGG_My_Day said:Photo Egg said:
So you can adjust the Smobot to fit the new BGE top/rEGGulator that comes on the new Eggs?mEGG_My_Day said:The Smobot damper is easy to adjust manually. So you really don’t have to get another top.
No - What I meant is once you install the Smobot on the old daisy wheel top, you can leave it there and you don't need another top. If you don't want to plug in and use the Smobot as a controller, you can still adjust airflow manually with the Smobot damper.I am guessing that Smobot is working on an adapter/damper for the new rEGGulator based on Eric's recent request for dimensions.

I may be speaking out of turn here, but I'd imagine it's because smobot distributes their own units vs. a network of dealers.unoriginalusername said:Thanks just watched. Any reason for not including the smobot? Curious between it and the egg modelStillwater, MN -
No major reason other than I have no experience with the smobot. It's one of the newer companies in the market. As you can see from some of the responses, folks like them.unoriginalusername said:

In a nutshell, EGG and BBQ Guru parted ways, Flame Boss stepped in and is now supplying EGG with a temp controller. As stlcharcoal said, EGG's version provides multi meat capability with the Y adapter and extra meat probes.stlcharcoal said:
It's a green FB400 that you can use y-adapters to add extra probes to. I believe it comes with one less draft door adapter as well since it only fits BGEs.Kent8621 said:
what is the egg genius i haven't see that before?tjv said:we carry four controller brands in our store and when folks ask us about controllers, we ask one simple question.....are you a computer, network guy. if the answer is yes, then without question, a wifi controller is your game. if not, then wifi is a judgement call.
the most basic way to control grill temps is the pitmasterIQ 110 for $140. It's only pit control, no food probes, isn't fancy wifi but it does what most people want, control the grill's temperature. up from the 110, the variety of methods and prices are wide.
I would drop the extra $10 and get the egg genius over the flame boss 400. Basic same parts and such except, the extra 10 spot gets you multi-probe capability.

I did a facebook live show couple weeks ago on flame boss, egg genius, pitmasteriq 110 and kamado joe ikammand. it's up on our facebook page.

The Smobot includes wifi access and the setup is 3rd grader easy. The others require someone with somewhat advanced network knowledge. Trust me, if I can set it up you can. The absence of the fan component leaves one less variable to control...keep in mind the fan has a damper that requires adjustments.tjv said:we carry four controller brands in our store and when folks ask us about controllers, we ask one simple question.....are you a computer, network guy. if the answer is yes, then without question, a wifi controller is your game. if not, then wifi is a judgement call.

tThe problem with a problem is that you don't know it's a problem until it's a problem, and that is a big problem.

Just a heads up for anyone buying the Egg Genius, if you are trying to use the new app but only have an older iPhone or iPad, the app will only run on iOS 11 or newer. Which come to find out is not available on iPhone 5 or older. Yes I need a new phone, but I can't download the app and will have to run the controller from my wife's phone. And on a positive note I ordered the Egg Genius from ceramic grill store yesterday morning and it's out for delivery today. I'd say that's pretty quick service.

I made my own controller - it's fun if you can solder, and want to do it. I still use it after about 2-3 years.

You buy a kit, parts show up, solder it together, and off you go. I didn't make a case.

I have been researching controllers for some time now. I never see much mention of the Auber brand (https://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=14_27&products_id=654). The few reviews I have found seem really positive. Wondering if anyone has experience using these? Would love to hear your experience.

My first controller was an Auber. It was real basic. All it did was control the BGE temperature. (No meat probes) The only real issue I had was with cold weather. (MN winters) Electronics and cold don't go together in general. It would shut off in extreme cold. Nothing a towel wrapped around the controller wouldn't fix. Other than that the controller itself was flawless. I ended up finding a Guru and Stoker with meat probes. So the Auber ended up sitting in the drawer. My brother in law picked up a Kamado Joe. So I passed on the Auber on to him and he now uses it for low and slow. The controller has to be around 8 years old now. I can't help with the Auber model you listed above but the Auber name itself has been good to me.krvic said:I have been researching controllers for some time now.
