One of our favorite places in downtown is the Purple Pig. If you like charcuterie well worth your time. https://thepurplepigchicago.com/Edina, MN

Purple Pig is awesome! We go there when we travel to Chicago. That and Lou Malnati's. Also have to get some popcorn from Nuts on Clark. Man I need to go back to Chicago for a visit.

I'm supposing you may be within walking distance of both places you mention. So Purple Pig is a good choice. But you are also near Frontera. Both tend to have waiting lines.

Purple Pig is pretty close. Marathon weekend, so if you don’t already have reservations, you could be out of luck.gdenby said:I'm supposing you may be within walking distance of both places you mention. Wow! Joan Benoit is entered in this! Going for an age group win (60-64).
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

You staying at the Trump?? Either way, you're pretty close or in the Marina Towers, right?
I'm remembering the Chicago architectural tour I took. That was worth every penny. Even the kids liked it.

When we lived there, our favorite tour for out of towners.stlcharcoal said:JohnEggGio said:

Since your in our city, I highly recommend going to Harrold's for fried chicken, cooked in beef tallow, it will be the best chicken you have ever eaten. Here is the link http://haroldswestloop.com/menu

The broccoli, pork belly, and JLT (pic below) are must haves......anything and everything is good, but those are my favs. Bone marrow is awesome, as is the tendons.
Only thing I haven't tried that I really want to is the pigs ears.
Me, Kick Ash Chad and his son, and Code 3 Chris.

BTW, the wait is always 60-90 minutes, but it's never that long. They take your cell phone number and text you when it's time--you have 10 minutes to get back there and claim your table. You can be at Water Tower Place and still get back there in 10, so don't let the wait scare you.

This was the pasta cracker and broccoli. BTW, I'm not usually a person that takes pics of my food at restaurants, but it was just to taunt somebody else that bailed on us that night.

-
You guys were put up in a totally different place than us. Calumet RR yard. Now don't get me wrong, I did see both baseball venues along with the best deep dish pizza I've had in my life! If I won the lottery we would love to eat our way thru chi town. Some of the best food I have experienced !
The best things in life are not things.

That place really is pretty awesome. The wife and I went a few years ago. Love Chicago.stlcharcoal said:This was the pasta cracker and broccoli. BTW, I'm not usually a person that takes pics of my food at restaurants, but it was just to taunt somebody else that bailed on us that night.

Without a doubt the beet dish is the best thing on the menu.

@stlcharcoal. We’re close to Trump - at the Westin. Had a really nice pepper-encrusted ribeye at Benny’s, washed down with an awesome Cabernet. The side-dishes were the stars - bacon Macncheese, gnocchi in pesto, creamed spinach...I forgot to get a pic of the steak...

We’re really limited with what we can do on this trip - flying back to Maryland tomorrow evening. Gotta get the daughter back to college. Very much appreciate all the dining suggestions - we need to come back!Maryland, 1 LBGE -
