I haven't used my Large for the last 8 months or so. after all I an a MiniMax Evangelist so I have been using it.
I have an 11 pound brisket to smoke tomorrow so I decided to do a clean burn on the Large today. I loaded up with some CharBroil Center Cut Lump and I have the bottom wide open and the top off. I have he PSWoo in there as well as the platesetter and my grates. Figure to let it go up around 600 - 700 then let it burn itself out before clean out the ashes and get ready for the brisket.
Does that sound about right? Any tips or suggestions?

I hope you didn't mean that as an instructional vide. I don't want to take off my shirt. And if I beat my chest and do a Tarzan like yell someone may call the guys in white coats with the padded van on me.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

I noticed on thing with the clean burn. With temps up around 750 my bands seemed to loosen up some and I felt the top shift slightly when I had it open.
I shut the top and moved it into better alignment while shutting down the bottom vent considerable.
I've got the newer bands to put on but I have been lazy and have been putting it off.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

I need to do some major maintenance on my XL. Like new felt, tighten bolts and calibrate gauge. Also need to clean SS chimney. Good luck on the brisket. I want to do one, but the wife doesn't want to till we have a lot of people over to help eat it.

A great clean burn can be conducted by @nolaegghead and his 5 gallons of cooking oil.

As you noted...tighten the bands after a clean burn or high temp cook. It's a good habit to check them at least once a month. I never do extended high temp burns because I worry about cracking my base or fire box. I just use a drip pan for all cooks.Dave - Austin, TX

If you have not used it in 8 months, I would bring the temp up gradually as the egg could have moisture in it. Dry it out so to speak, then get it to 700 to finish the clean burn. Also, your egg may sweat all sorts of brown junk, which is normal. Also, check bands as others have stated.Hasbrouck Heights, NJ

@lowandslow That's what I did. Left it at 750 for maybe 20 minutes then started choking it down. Let it burn for a few hours at around 400 before closing it down as I wanted to cool off so that I could clean it before it got too dark last night.
