Large Egg Worth Purchasing?

I just came across a Large Big Green Egg used 3 times and comes with a nest which I got down to $450. I was told it was received as a gift, so it probably was not registered. The seller lives about 45 minutes to an hour from me so I should probably act quickly. Thoughts?

Looks good. Does it have the platesetter And ash tool?.

I think it is a good deal but you may get, at minimum, another $300.00 in it before it will be ready to do everything you ask of it.That said, you might get that much into a new Egg above and beyond the price tag.

I think it’s a good deal. A broken firebox and ring are in your future. I am basing that off of the seven or eight eggs I’ve owned over the last 9 years. Factor that into your cost. Another thing I have noticed on eggs that are sold in my area, they always say it’s only been used 3-4 times. It seems to be a theme, and I think people are trying to say it’s in good shape. In the case of your pictures, the story matches the pictures. It doesn’t look that used and it has the latest hardware and changes hinting it is new within the last twelve months or so. Others mentioned some possible accessories not included, but I didn’t see the dual function metal top there either. Good luck and enjoy that egg.

Check to see if the owner has registered the egg.If not, and it was a gift, you may be able to register it with BGE and receive the benefits of a warranty...It it has been registered... It's still a good deal but as @cookingdude555 explained, time and wear will cause some needed replacement parts and you need to factor the costs in on those.Things you'll probably end up purchasing:PSWoo ring with ceramic stone or BGE platesetterIf it doesn't have the metal top, then a new metal top or smokeware topBoth of the above would probably be purchased even if you bought a new egg!Good luck!Kirkland, TN2 LBGE, 1 MM

I'd jump on it if I were you.

Why do you say $300? If it comes with the platesetter, it is ready to roll. If not, I think that is $100?DWFII said:I think it is a good deal but you may get, at minimum, another $300.00 in it before it will be ready to do everything you ask of it.That said, you might get that much into a new Egg above and beyond the price tag.Pittsburgh, PA. Just checked, three eggs of the seven listed in my area have the magical "used 3 times" language.

Get him to come down to say $375, but even at $400 that is a steal.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

If you can get a warranty with it, that's a great deal. A once used egg at an EggFest with a platesetter is right at 850.Dave - Austin, TX
