Hot platesetter

Relatively new egger and brand new to the forum.

What do you guys do with your hot plate setter once you remove it from your grill?  Wasn’t sure if anyone could recommend a mat or another technique to putting it down to cool off without making burn patches in the lawn.

Thanks all...looking forward to hearing from you.

Kick ash basket plate setter lifter.  You just grab it with the tool, then hang it off the side.
  • I’ve got that but it doesn’t work with my mahogany table.

  • I use firebricks on my deck, don't know if they would be high enough to protect lawn.  Firebricks are very handy and cheap to have around for hot things.

Excuse me, but I must have missed why you need to take it right off. I just let mine stay in the egg until morning when it is cold.

Wherever this process takes you, make sure you have the landing zone scoped out and fully ready to receive when you make the move.  No time for indecision once the game is on.  FWIW-
Edit:  There is after-market gear that makes the entire removal quite slick as long as the landing zone is defined and good to go.  Wire shelf is the target here.
But if you are removing to then crank up the temp (reverse sear comes to mind) then just use that as the reason to acquire another BGE.  Thank me later.  ;)

You can certainly do that, but you are delaying the temp rise.  The platesetter is a fairly large thermal mass and removing it greatly helps accelerate the time to get up to searing temps.  Try it sometime.

First - welcome to the forum.

If it’s hot like when I do a reverse sear,  I leave it in the CGS woo and put the whole thing on a wrought iron table next to the grill.  I’ll then take the grid off the woo and drop it back in the egg.

I have a Weber kettle next to my Egg. I store extra grill, pizza stones in there--it's covered it's, out of the way and when I want to light a chimney full of charcoal, it's the perfect place.

I have this beside my egg. I think it was about $49 at WalMart. The open design of the metal top allows airflow to the bottom of the platesetter and it cools off fairly fast. Now this thing does rust, but a little sanding and a can of Krylon takes care of that.

I have an old school desk (not slanted) with firebricks legs up.  I use welding gloves to just grab and move it pretty fast. it can get just a bit hot.

I just put mine on a paver on the ground. Unless we are babysitting our favorite furry four legged friend. Then it goes on the gasser. The gasser gets limited use since I bought the egg.

My blackstone sits right next to the eggs, with a stainless cover on it at all times. I always place my hot items on that cover, it makes a great landing area.
