My family has decided that this year we are going to stray from the traditional turkey (sorry Max) and have something/s we normally do not have on a regular basis.[p]I am looking for some suggestions for the main meal as well as something for a snack in the evening, [p]TIA[p]-- fonchik

fonchik,
My sister makes a meat loaf shaped like a turkey and then puts turkey wings and legs on it. So, you have both turkey and meat loaf for them what doesn't like turkey.[p]Doug

fonchik:[p]Alternatively, we always used to have a seafood feast . . . Shrimp, oysters, crab, clams, crab cakes, gumbo, etc. Some good eating if it is planned right!

Rick's Tropical Delight,
That is what I was kind of leaning towards.
Ribeye and some crab legs.
How did you cook the crab legs? Egg or the indoor gasser?
-
Celtic Wolf,
That would be my choice but that meal is a very traditional Swedish meal to stay with the long standing family tradition.

these babys were precooked in dutch harbor alaska and flown direct to me (or down the road at least!)[p]on the egg to heat... 400 for 10-15[p]garlic butter is a must![p]go with the filets, woman! it's thanksgiving!
heheh
-
BENTE,
Pizza was what I was thinking for an evening snack.
ABTs will be saved for friends who will enjoy them more then the family.[p]--fonchik
-
fonchik,[p] Well considering that the Original Thanksgiving was a feast party prepared by the Native American living in MA. You could have a variety of wild game.
-
Rick's Tropical Delight,
Where did you order the legs from?[p]I will consider filets for dinner but, the family doesn't alway appreciate the good stuff. I have hard time spending $$ when they won't the know the difference between the really good stuff and the moderately good stuff.[p]-fonchik

Rick's Tropical Delight,[p] OK where did you get these and can we get them from there too?
-

i got those incredible red king crab legs down at the upscale grocery in town...[p]they's not cheap... over $25 a pound!
[ul][li]where i got the huge red king crab legs[/ul] -
fonchik,[p]Cornish game hens would be a good sub. Lemon pound cake for dessert, pizza in the evening. Just my thoughts. AZ

Rick's Tropical Delight,
The seafood place I shop ( Anchorage Ak. )had those on sale last week for $9.99 lb. ................Awsome.
The seafood is great here, but it's also 10 degrees below zero right now. Good thing I love wintertime.[p]Keith

Pork Puller,
Life is a trade. You pay less for good seafood we pay less for other things I suspect. That said Alaska would be my kind of place. I doubt I could get the wife to go for it though.[p]
-
Rick's Tropical Delight,
Now that is different.....details man.
-
fonchik,
Last year we had pulled pork for Christmas day. I suggested prime rib...the wife wanted pulled pork.[p]Thanksgiving is about family time so really it is whatever makes folks happy as far as I'm concerned. [p]Mr Toads pork loin would be a good one. YB did a mean standing rib roast in Atlanta (didn't get any this year but it sure was great last year).

dhuffjr,
sure![p]the original frogmore stew has soft shell crabs in it, but it's hard to get them up here fresh so i use clams instead and renamed it lakehouse stew.[p]1 batch of lakehouse stew:
1 # sweet italian sausage
3 # new potatoes
1 large onion
1 bell pepper
1 celery heart
2 T old bay seafood seasoning
salt
pepper
36" polish sausage (cut into 1.5" lengths)
6 ears corn, halved
50 little neck clams
3 # fresh shrimp[p]all boiled up nice and fancy in the turkey fryer:
boil 7 minutes sausage and potatoes covered with water and beer;
add onion, bell pepper, celery, old bay, salt & pepper and boil 10 minutes;
add polish sausage and boil 10 minutes;
add corn and boil 10 minutes;
add clams and shrimp and boil for 3 minutes;
remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes.
drain & serve with cocktail sauce and real butter.
that supposedly feeds 6, but those would be 6 very hungry people!
that's two batches in the photo on the other post...
we made it all last july 4th prior to firing off 8", 4", and 3" mortars, professional fireworks in kentucky... huge fun![p]enjoy!

These are pics of the same cut of meat on two separate occasions. It's a 3" cut of top prime sirloin....trussed up tight...and rubbed overnight in QBabes Coffee Encrusting Rub. That's some yummy stuff.[p]The sear was with some south of the border mesquite lump that had a tendency to spark just a bit. I then followed max's suggestion to finish like Prime Rib. It was great! It's a relatively quick cook. I did it for Christmas instead of turkey.[p]Mike[p]Mike [p]
