Cast Iron Grid

Did a clean burn of my LBGE and left the cast iron grid in the egg. 700 degrees for about two hours to get rid of mold in egg and on the cast iron grid. The grid now has rust in spots. Can I wipe off rust spots, re-season, and cook on the grid?

Yes you can. Depending on how bad the rust is you could possibly take a wire brush to it.

It doesn't have rust "now". You can just see it now. It's been there a while under the gunk. Brush it, add oil and cook something.
And you don't need 700° to get rid of the penicillin farm. Half that will do.I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I inherited a very nice oblong (12x24) grill pan from my grandfather. Been in a barn for 25 years. Took several cooks but it came clean and is now part of the egg team of cookware.Xl bge ,LG bge, two 4' crusher cone fire pits. Weber Genisis gasser and

I usually don’t clean the gunk off my cast iron grid. I only scrape the surface stuff off after the next cooks preheat. That funk between cooks helps to keep your grid sealed from oxidation. If you get cast iron “clean”, it will show rust. Plus that high heat for a long time could cause it to crack from expansion. Not a big deal just be aware.
