Naked Whiz Spatchock Chicken - question on leaving in fridge, rub or no rub

So I'm giving another go at Spatchock smoked chicken, following the Naked Whiz I'm going to put the birds in the fridge for about 24 hrs. That said, do you RUB before or after they go in the fridge? I don't want to over do it.
How have you all done it? Assuming it won't hurt to have the rub on for 24-30hrs while is uncovered in the fridge right, just worried about a cure starting... Maybe I'll just throw some rub on tomorrow morning, then again right before it goes on smoker.

Leaving the bird uncovered is to help dry out the skin. I apply rub at the start because the skin gets too dry to get it to stick later.
You would have to apply oil to get it moist enough to stick which would partially rehydrate the skin.Greensboro, NC -
I do it after. I've done it both ways, I don't see much of a difference.
You can do it either way. Don't over think it.
If you're just morbidly curious, you can always cut the chicken in half and try it both ways and see what you prefer."Brought to you by bourbon, bacon, and a series of questionable life decisions."

Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting. The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president. -
Just be sure to hold off on chocking the chicken until after your grill it.

I will put the rub under the skin right after chix surgery and before going into the fridge for the overnight dry. When time for the cook I will then season the outer surface. Doesn't matter as you will get a great result however you prep it. Legs to the back is about the only criteria I have for spatch chix. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

If you have a saltier rub it may also drawl moisture out slowing drying process overnite.Haddon Township, NJ
