i have a 22 Blackstone, a 22 webber kettle, a small webber Q 220 gas grill and an XL
For steaks when want quick I use the webber Q gas grill, For chickem and low and slow I use the XL , For burgers/dogs, fajatas bacon eggs ( any skillet type item) shrimp and sometimes salmon I like the griddle but would prefer the 36 instead of the 22 blackstone unless I wanted to take to camping etc.
If only two I would have XL and be hard pressed to decide on next but it would not the webber kettle since it is too similar to XL in time to cook.I XL and 1 Weber Kettle And 1 Weber Q220 Outside Alvin, TX-- South of Houston -
I would like to have a BS griddle or a Mini Max, but my boss "WIFE" says I have enough grills and smokers. I got this a few years ago for an work anniversary gift. It is up to temp in less then 5 minutes and can cook a 1" steak in about 8 to ten minutes. Now the first time I cooked on it I hadn't cooked on gas in a long time and cooked our steaks on high. We could taste the propane. I then started cooking at medium heat and no bad taste.

No I have an XL BGE and I started lighting it with a weed burner cain and it usually only takes about 10 to 15 minutes for it to be ready to cook burgers or hot dogs.

I too have a DCS gasser and man that thing gets hot in no time. Not cheap, but you would be hard pressed to find a better gasser. Still prefer my LBGE, but sometimes you want that ability to be cooking in under 5 minutes.NorthPilot06 said:As you're quickly finding out, it's a matter of preference. The weber is a time-tested machine; I've owned many in the past and never been disappointed. However, it is a charcoal grill at the end of the day...and won't be any quicker than your BGE.
There are a lot of fans of the BS on here, FWIW. I'm certain it's a great unit, but I haven't had the privilege of using one yet.
I've got a DCS gasser (not cheap, expect to spend some $$$). But I will say that it gets to 700+ degrees in two minutes, so you're never waiting to grill. I find that I use it frequently, but I'll always love the taste that you get from the BGE. -

My Alfresco is up to the challenge of being a better gasser than the DCS
Just kidding, both are great. I agree, a great gasser will cost a lot money... I could have gotten ~5 XL's for the cost of my Alfresco 42" drop-in.South of Nashville - BGE XL - Alfresco 42" ALXE - Alfresco Versa Burner - Sunbeam Microwave -
Weber jumbo joe. Portable, big enough to cook a good bit on, can indirect cook and smoke on it.
Also a fraction of the cost of a mini max.2 LBGE, Blackstone 36, Jumbo Joe

Nonsense brother 69. Saying that you have enough smokers or grills is akin to saying that you enough money. One can never have to much money and one can certainly never have to many grills or smokersLadeback69 said:I would like to have a BS griddle or a Mini Max, but my boss "WIFE" says I have enough grills and smokers.

It sounds like you just need a faster way to light the egg. A Weber isn't really going to be any faster. Get yourself a weed torch. You can get the large BGE to 350 in under 10 minutes. I can beat our house oven to temp with the large BGE.

Earlier in this post I recommended the Weber kettle. I still stick to that recommendation. I think everyone should have at least one kettle (no matter how many types of other cookers that they have) due to its ease of use and all around flexibility.Wooderson said:So here's the story, I've got a LBGE, cook on it all the time, love it. The wife and I are in a debate on another cooking apparatus to do quick meals. E.g. burgers, hot dogs, brats. We have kids that just want food. I want to hear from the community on whether a small Weber charcoal or small gas grill would be best, the most comments is the winner of the debate and the cooker will be purchased. Go!
However if your main goal is simply speed, gas would be very hard to beat. Push a button and you are ready to go in less than 5 minutes on a good gas grill.
With that said, if you use a chimney starter for your charcoal, you can have a Weber kettle up to temp and online in about 10 minutes once you get proficient with it.
Im one of those folks who will take charcoal over gas 99.9% of the time if given the choice. Simply for the better taste and flavor. I know that taste and flavor is subjective and differs from person to person, but for my tastes and preferences, charcoal/lump and wood win out every time over gas.
I will give gas it’s due though. Gas is very cheap and a tank lasts a very long time. Gas is convenient. Gas is the easiest to use. Simply turn a dial to increase or decrease temp. It doesn’t get much easier than that.
At the end of the day, only you know what will best serve your needs. If it’s sheer speed and ease, then go with gas. But Im willing to bet you a dollar against a dog biscuit that a kettle will not disappoint.

Gasser or speed of getting grub on the heat, easiest to use for when SWMBO decides to grill. I have a Char broil Commercial, just passed the 11 year Mark.LBGE, and just enough knowledge and gadgets to be dangerous .

A microwave or a skillet on the stove works fine for that situation.Perfect situation was last night. It was 8pm and the teenage daughter and her friend wanted brats and dogs. I didn't have the motivation to fire up the eggHouston (Clear Lake) TX

The Weber charcoal grill will take 15 min for coals to be grayed over using conventional lighting methods
look at the kettle performers in the table with gas light assist its an awesome setup
for what you describe wanting a fast dedicated brat dog burger grill I’d go gas“There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.”

I agree with all of the above. I've used several different kinds of charcoal grills, notably including many years with a Weber kettle, and I don't see my BGEs as any slower or more cumbersome. I light with a torch, use Rockwood so there's rarely any white smoke even with new lump, and I'm usually ready to grill in the same amount of time it would have been with a Weber.NorthPilot06 said:... I completely don't understand the many people here saying a Weber is faster. How? Why? They're both charcoal grills!
I agree with @SonVolt: charcoal grills are charcoal grills. But a gasser, while not necessarily a lot faster, probably is a little faster, and you never have to mess with charcoal or ashes. Just turn it on, wait a few minutes for it to heat up, and you're grilling. I don't have one anymore, don't want one anymore, but if you want fast and easy for a few hot dogs, and you've convinced yourself that the Egg is slow, I'd suggest a gas grill.
(Or find a faster way to light your BGE, maybe! Again, when I light in several places with a torch, I'm ready to grill in 10-15 minutes.)
