sorry if this is a stupid question, but...
for those who use a torch to light your lump what brand are you using. Looked on amazon and they have 100 options. Looking for a small hand held torch to quickly and safely start the lump. I am currently using a heat gun, works great but don’t always have electric near by. I know I can use the starting cubes but I am not a fan of them (just me).
thanks PapaJ

I use a trigger ignite torch from the home center and a standard propane cylinder. It works quick and easy. After 18 months of minimum twice a week use the cylinder is almost empty. Almost.

Don't spend the extra $$ for the yellow bottles, the blue bottles are fine.

Bernzomatic TS4000 or TS8000 are both great. I have the TS4000 but as @HeavyG said don’t waist your money on map/pro in the yellow bottle it’s about the same as straight propane.BGE XL June 2017 Flameboss 300 February 2018 Mini max July 2018 Lima, Ohio

I disagree to an extent. Get the Map/pro head so the flame won’t go out when inverted. You can still use the regular propane bottles with a map pro head.Zeiger88 said:Bernzomatic TS4000 or TS8000 are both great. Any of the pressure regulated heads (like the TS series or the BZ4500HS (which is what I use)) will work fine with blue or yellow bottles upright or inverted.DoubleEgger said:

I've never used the head you linked to bit it is also pressure regulated the bottle position shouldn't matter whether blue or yellow bottles.

All that I was saying was that map/pro gas in the yellow bottle isn’t much different then propane in a blue bottle going by temp and time to start the lump. Compared to the old MAPP gas the new map/pro is like propane. But @DoubleEgger as you said the map/pro head so the flame won’t go out when upside down. This is a must for lighting lump.HeavyG said:

I have a similar butane torch I picked up at The Restaurant Store for around $10. I don't use it to light lump, but it has lots of other uses, such as lighting cigars.JMCXL said:So do people not use these?
