Brother Focker, do you have any experience with the Stargazer cast iron products? I have had a few folks say good things about them, but haven’t tried them myself. A penny for your thoughts my friend.

$200 for an 8” cast iron skillet, with a too-short main handle and an ugly secondary handle? I’ll pass. I admit I collect and use vintage cast iron, so I’m more than a bit biased. But if I was going to look at a modern machined smooth skillet the Stargazer is about 1/3rd the price.
But you’ll have to pry my vintage iron out of my cold dead hands. -

Are the new style Lodge skillets really over 6 pounds?
I checked 2 of my older no name brands. One is right at 4 pounds and the other is 4.5 pounds. I believe I saw posted the older Griswolds are in 3 1/2 pound range?Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas - LIGHTWEIGHT

I don’t have any of the new Lodge cast iron so I don’t know about the weight. On a side note, I have used various Lodge cast iron pieces for decades with very good luck. For the money, they are reasonably good products in my book.Photo Egg said:

I agree. Dollar for dollar, for those of us who don't stumble or hunt vintage, Lodge is great. Their enameled stuff as well. I have several Lodge pieces but just don't have a standard Lodge skillet to compare weight.SGH said:

Edit...After a google search. The Lodge sk10, 10" cooking surface and 12 inch across, pops the scale at 8 1/2 pounds.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas - LIGHTWEIGHT

@SGH- over the last year or two I have bought skillets from four of the new cast iron makers in the US - Stargazer, Field, Marquette, and Finex.
Of those four, my favorite is the Stargazer. I LOVE the longer handle. I like that the helper handle is "separated" from the skillet so it doesn't get as hot as those that are just little nubs protruding from the sidewall. The interior is as smooth as glass. It has a pour lip that works pretty well. The radius at the skillet surface and sidewall is great for "spooning".
Mine was pre-seasoned and some of the seasoning has lifted off. That doesn't bother me as I know it will regain seasoning from continued use but it does bother some folks so getting their bare skillet and seasoning it yourself may be the way to go. Plus you'll save a few bucks (not that that is important since I know in Trump's roaring economy you're just rolling in the dough!
).

Thanks for the review on the stargazer. Hearing you say good things about it is all the nudge I need. Going to order one tonight. I really like the looks of it.
