Torque question

Gotta take my XL apart to move it, how much torque for the bolts on the bands when I reassemble it?
p.s. I’m not looking forward to this, especially because I need it for Christmas dinner. No pressure at all, lol.

Dealer did replacement bands to fix my underbite and I was surprised when they clamped the new bands all the way together and said most of these warranty replacements come from people not installing tight enough
-
They tightened your bands until they touched?!unoriginalusername said:Dealer did replacement bands to fix my underbite and I was surprised when they clamped the new bands all the way together and said most of these warranty replacements come from people not installing tight enough -
I had a hard time finding a reasonably priced torque wrench that would accurately read 10 ft lbs. I'm sure there's some clever way to hang a weight off the end of a wrench but I'm not that clever. when the dome falls off i'll blame a dog and be devastated.Chicago, IL - Large and Small BGE - Weber Gasser and Kettle

“suspending a 10# weight (bag of spuds) from a 12" wrench/socket handle to get the equivalent of 120in-lbs. ” is what I have seen written and don’t know if this is true, though sounds logical.blind99 said:I had a hard time finding a reasonably priced torque wrench that would accurately read 10 ft lbs. Def true. That’s a problem statement right out of a 101 class.GalanteNate_OneEa said:

If that lever is perpendicular to the force of gravity, I would guess 3.7 slug-inchesjohnnyp said:

Ya it was nuts but 6 months in they haven’t moved and my egg didn’t split into pieces like I thought it would as they were cranking on the bandsGalanteNate_OneEa said:

The force vector is going in the -Y direction, same as the direction of gravity. I can’t attach the image for examination integrity purposesnolaegghead said:

I asked a mechanic buddy back in the day what torque wrenches cost, and he said "About $1 a foot pound." Given you are looking for 10 ft-lbs, and that a torque wrench reads most accurately in the middle of its range, you are really looking for a 20 ft-lb torque wrench.blind99 said:I had a hard time finding a reasonably priced torque wrench that would accurately read 10 ft lbs.
I am a fan of something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/SNAP-ON-MINT-1-4-DRIVE-QD1R200-NEW-STYLE-TORQUE-WRENCH/32295181519
It is a bit pricier, but is the dogs bollocks and you won't lose (much) money on it if you sell it again. You have just under an hour to pull the trigger.
Alternatively, if you live in Houston, you can borrow mine (with supervision).(now only 16 stone)

With all these posts I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the torque wrenches that many of us have purchased from Harbor Freight for a VERY reasonable price.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time
