Valley of Fire over Red Rock, Hoover Damn over the Grand Canyon (given your time constraints). If you have your own car, get off the Strip for food. There is so much to do here, just have fun.
uber or taxi are fairly cheap.

Don't think I've rented a car for work trips since April. Did rent one when our family visited my wife's family in Cali, but returned it and took Uber/Lyft when we spent a couple days in San Fran. Everyone thinks of the taxi industry as being disrupted by ride sharing, but rental car industry is impacted as much.

That is very true, nothing is really too far from the strip. I would definitely recommend Uber or Lyft instead of cabs. They are aweful.

You will undoubtedly do a ton of walking. Since this if your first time and you'll probably want to go up and down the strip I also recommend getting a bus pass for the Deuce, which just goes up and down the strip and you never have to wait too long. It's more convenient than driving yourself and parking while on the strip. Your pass can also get you an an express bus downtown.

The hotel and casino industry think it’s a good idea to charge for parking in Vegas now 15-20 a day adds up when you can Uber/lift about anywhere for 10-15.

The helicopter flight over the Hoover Dam and then over the Grand Canyon was pretty cool.  So was ziplining over Fremont Street.

If you're into sports, walking through the sports books at some of the big hotels is also very cool - Mirage, MGM, Venetian, etc.

If you want to try your hand a poker, a lot of the hotels have daily Texas Hold'em tournaments with the buy-in ranging from $70 - $500.  The tournament format limits your potential losses.

    +1 on any Cirque show.

Grabbing a chocolate mixed drink at the Hershey's Chocolate Bar in New York New York is a fun diversion.

Yeah, cause the $39 per day resort fees apparently aren't enough.

Yeah those are BS too.  I always argue those--even though you can't get out of them anyway.  They used to say they covered parking.  Now they just cover the pool towels and Wi-Fi.  I always say, "I'm not going to the pool because it's 60F outside, and I'm not here to play on the internet (and I have my hotspot if I want to.)"

LV is a great place!  We're not gamblers, but that in only a part of the LV experience.  We will sometime get a table in a bar in a hotel and just watch the people go by. There are shows every night. Dining is also great there.

Outside the hotels there is plenty to see.  You can go to the Grand Canyon, by bus, car or helicopter (my favorite way).  You can experience shooting full automatic firearms, driving heavy machinery. The Shelby museum is also in town. Richard Petty also offers his "Driving Experience"  but you'll have to check the schedule and see if they are in town when you are.

Nothing, because they'll never let you out of them.  I figure if enough people b!tch then maybe they'll roll them into the nightly rate like they should be doing.  They're anywhere from $19-39 tacked on.

Beginning of last year, I think MGM started and every followed suit. Along with the resort fees it gets a bit rediculous.  Best advice I can give is if you frequent and gamble use a players card they still like to throw out free rooms via that card but you have to navigate the system to do so.  We get about 20 nights a year comp’d and we are by no means “high rollers”.  My wife just figured out how to work the system a bit.

The parking lot/deck property is worth so much money that they seemingly have to charge to park. The taxes are outrageous I bet.

Fremont Street Experience is pretty cool for sure. Top of Binions Steakhouse (on Fremont) is excellent and the view from the 24th floor restaurant is very nice as well! Of course you have to take in a fountain show or two at the Bellagio.

We also enjoy the Bellagio fountains and it's across the street from one of our favorite restaurants Mon Ami Gabi, which I snapped this shot from.

Well I’m still in Vegas and all I can say is this city is nuts. Never sleeps. So ready for home but it’s a great experience. Everyone needs to visit just to see it in real life. TV doesn’t do it justice.

Safest place to be in the whole world right now.......SHOT Show is going on at the Sands Convention Center.  All the pick pockets and looters got the hell out of dodge for the week.

That's like the two weekends that STL has hosted the NRA convention.  The only two times in the last 10 yrs with conventions or game weekends, there hasn't been a rash car jackings, stick-ups, and cars broken into downtown.  The thugs were scared.

Was about to suggest something off the beaten path, but upon a little research just now, learned it has since closed.... there used to be a very high-end lingerie etc. boutique along the strip called Kiki de Montparnasse. I believe there were two other locations at that time - New York and Paris(?). Was served sparkling wine upon arrival before being provided with a riding crop (horse whip) and being ushered into the changeroom with my lady friend while she tried on lingerie. Easily my most vivid memory of Vegas (as well as my best-ever shopping experience).
