    OT - A farmhouse dining table we built

    This is off topic, but too pretty not to share. We built this table using traditional joinery out of 8/4 poplar stock. I would love to hear what you guys think!

      Oustanding work!  Would like to hear more about the joinery.

      Love the window valances too - very nice touch.

      But the rug really ties the room together. =)  If you know, you'll know.

      Mortise and tenon joinery throughout. The ends on the table top and bench are bread board ends. The base is attached using a half lap joint. Dowels connect the corner pieces. This is a hard one to get rid of!

      I wish. We trade work with a friend that is a photographer. Photography is a pricey investment.

      Nice take on the classic trestle table and matching bench. Awesome work. 

      Did you allow for expansion on the breadboard ends? Hard to tell from the photos.

      We left a pretty small space for expansion. Not a huge gap, but a small enough space to allow for climate changes in a house.

      Beautiful! Mine kitchen table is super simple. It's a 4×8 sheet of plywood over my kitchen table base. I'm sure glad they make tablecloths! ;) My Dad and I sprayed stain on the actual table top and it started to blotch after spending hours and hours sanding and prepping. It's some crazy wood that doesn't like taking stain. So it's sitting in my parents garage waiting for finish sanding. The over spray the last go around with stain made its way everywhere in my parents garage. I think we might see if we can rent a spray booth this next go around from a friend. Still need to figure out what went wrong. 95% would have called it good. Not my dad. So its back to the drawing board. 

      Great job on your table! I know how much of a project they can be. My wife would be jealous. So I'll make sure she doesn't see this post! =)

      Here is a table we made for a NICU waiting room for a Kansas City hospital. It is joined with a full blind dove tail. I don’t care for the black legs, but it is what they wanted. Side note, the XL Egg now sits where this table is!

      That looks solid enough to use as a workbench, nice job!
