I am looking into getting a new set of steak knives. I wanted to poll the audience and get some input on your thoughts about which is better and why.

Serrated if you're bad about sharpening your knives.

Depends on the typical cut of steak you eat or serve guests. Serrated is over kill for filets and most finer cuts of beef, but nice for rib eye. For me...all mine are serrated! LOL...Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

Serrated for me.

If you're near a cutco retailer, find some used cutco steak knives and then get them sharpened for free when needed

Agree with others who suggest purchasing thru a secondary market. I have both myself but prefer serrated.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

Serrated is good for tougher, or tougher shelled things like bread, tomatoes, lettuce, watermelon, pineapple, rope, wood, lol, but catches and tears the protein as a saw would..wood. I keep them around for when serving on regular plates, as they are disposable. Found and bought a 4.5" set of 4 in a Maquoketa, IA hardware store recently, Flint Ekco 1997 on the package, $1.09 ea. Bought a couple of 3" serrated parers at that price too.
Years ago, I got a set of Shun steak knives for a great price, and paired them with acacia wood plates. Peeps who use them appreciate the sharpness compared to the serrated standard.

Serrated for people that don’t like to sharpen knives. All mine are non-serrated Soligen Germany knives, that are sharp as razors!

Legal issues
On May 2, 1997, Murphy was stopped by police after having been observed picking up a transgender prostitute. The prostitute, Shalimar Seiuli, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for prostitution. Murphy was not arrested or charged and claimed he was just giving Seiuli a ride.[62][63]

Keep a decent edge and then a few passes on a belt sander, leather strop, 8-10k polishing rouge and you will never look back to serrated."Feed me, or feed me to something; I just want to be part of the food chain" Al Bundy

Personally, I've never been able to figure the logic behind serrated steak knives. By definition, steak is supposed to be tender. So why need an edge that would work well against crusty bread?
I suppose it is because most folks don't sharpen their knives, and if they did, serrated would be the last thing one would want to do.
W. a good sharpening 1 time a year, and occassional honing and stropping, good quality straight edges work fine giving clean cuts. Note that lots of serrated blades are that way because the steel is fairly soft.

To avoid the decision, I just cook everything to fork tender.

cheap serrated. i watch people pick up my best fillet knife and will cut a steak in a plate or in a cast iron pan. my good stuff is off limits for them now, hidden away til i need it

I let the friends, fam, grab the good stuff, like CI, one can't help but appreciate it when used. And if it comes up, a good opportunity to educate on the use, maintenance vs the dull standards.
For camping, that's a different "beater" approach, where the knives and board sit out the whole time, and it's a free-for-all.BrandonQuad Cities
