Damn Nola - did you just write out that treatise on hot dog, stream-of-conscious-ly?
    google - cntrl-c - cntrl-v, etc.
And it’s still wrong. A hot dog isn’t a sandwich.
we have two different emojis because they are two different thing.
edit>my whole argument is ruined - the emojis on my iPad don’t show up in my text here.

Never mind. Carry on. (Feeling defeated)
A hotdog is a sandwich in the same way that a hero/grinder/hoagie/sub is a sandwich.

Is a gyro a sandwich? Of course.

  • So a piece of chicken.on a bun is not a sandwich? Or fish or a Philly cheese steak sandwich ?
A bun is made of bread people come on !

In my early orbits heading to escape velocity, let me offer the following, When you order a hot dog you have a solid idea of what you will get in terms of the package.  Now order a chicken, fish or philly cheese steak without the word sandwich (perhaps a stretch with the philly) and you will have to add something to the conversation to complete your order to your satisfaction.  "I want a fish...."  FWIW-

Whether it's a sandwich (no) or not...what's the problem with mustard?

I'd have to correct "never" to allow for kids.  In my experience, most kids are happy to put ketchup on practically anything, definitely including hot dogs, and they're not crazy about mustard, especially when they're little.  But then they grow up and switch to mustard, and try to forget that they ever, ever used to put ketchup on their hot dogs!   ;)

Upon further review it is definitely a sandwich. One of my favorite things in the world is a falafel. Order one in an authentic restaurant and you get 3 balls on a plate. When you tell them you wanted falafels in a pita they tell you that is a falafel sandwich. Case closed.

In a world where POTUS puts ketchup on a steak, I'm there's gotta be room for ketchup on a hotdog.

Personally, I dig this stuff on a hotdog sandwich.

Sushi is wrapped in rice.  Go ahead and call that a sandwich too.

@GrillSgt - I could be miss-reading your above post but I believe you just made a compelling argument for why a hot dog is not a sandwich.  You order a hot dog and you don't need to offer any additional words to get what you expect.

Depends on the type of sushi yes? Not all sushi is rolled.

But this one might qualify as a sandwich. :)

Do you order a pizza the same way you order a hotdog?

@HeavyG- When I order a pizza I do not expect a sandwich...but to each their own.

If I go around the block to my local hotdog joint or pizza place and go to the counter and say "I want a hot dog (or pizza if applicable)" they'll just stand there waiting until I narrow down the 898 possible combinations of types of dogs, types of rolls, types of condiments, or type of crust, sauce, toppings, etc., etc.

One doesn't just walk up to the hot dog counter and say just "I want a hot dog" unless they truly expect to be just handed the bare naked tube steak. Perhaps they do things differently in your town.

The phylogenetic tree I linked to earlier lists pizza as exactly that "open faced cheese sandwich".

Of course if you are eating a New York slice and fold it it becomes... a "closed face cheese sandwich"? :)

What isn't a sandwich?  Is French onion soup a sandwich? It usually has bread on top.

Weirdo.  You should map your Windows keyboard to be correct like the Mac.

That is ergonomically illogical.  Much shorter reach for the majority of function key combos.

Oh, and Chicago-style deep-dish pizza is NOT pizza; it's casserole.
Very good casserole, but casserole nonetheless.

The entire QWERTY layout is not as efficient as DVORAK.

Is DVORAK taught in schools?  It should be, any keyboard could be easily transformed to it with a simple app.
I also wonder if someone who's used QWERTY for 40 years could learn DVORAK....
