We are really spoiled here in Durham. The city has become something of a foodie destination over the past decade or so.
We have a lot of high-end restaurants, but what I really like are the hole-in-the-wall type places. Here are just a few:
Saltbox Seafood - doesn't get much better for fried fish:
Dame's chicken and waffles, oh my:
Gocciolina for Italian - chef trained for years in Naples. Most of the main courses are under $8:
M Kokko for noodles, Korean dishes with a twist:
Picnic for whole-hog Q:
Arepas at Luna:

Some off the top of my head near the heart of Tampa.
Bern’s Steakhouse, the Columbia, Datz, Ulele, Jackson’s Bistro, Bernini’s (Italian), Miguel’s/Green Lemon (Mexican), Mr. Dunderbaks Biergarten.
Ive since moved to an outside suburb of Tampa, but these places are worth the 30 minute/ish drive for me.
Im pretty fond of the mermaid myself up near lakeland maybe?

If you are ever in Atlanta, head down the street from the Vortex and weirdos in traffic for the best burger around if you enjoy good beer.

I would love to. The last time I was in Durham, was the evening of the tragic 911 attacks. I was in Gaithersburg MD, and had to drive home as Regan airport was closed. I only had a short overnight and headed out the next day for the Atlanta area. I would love to return one day for groceries. I have spent some time in Raleigh, but would welcome a return visit to the area.JohnInCarolina said:We are really spoiled here in Durham. True that, don't waste your time with the Vortex. Great food and beer at Wrecking Bar for sure. The Reuben is ridiculous. Hard to beat that brisket burger at Fox Bros though.FATC1TY said:If you are ever in Atlanta, head down the street from the Vortex and weirdos in traffic for the best burger around if you enjoy good beer.

@CarolinaCrazy - yep. Mateo is our favorite place in town.
Love Nana Taco. We go to Nana's a lot too - always stellar there.
Parlour is incredible. Only bummer is that there always seems to be long lines.
I've had some great sandwiches at Lucky's.
I also didn't mention Pizzeria Toro, which is always great."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

@JohnInCarolina I’m in Raleigh but glad you gave me a few places to try in Durham. Really like Dame’s and Picnic but need to visit the others now as well. Durham’s food scene is incredible now, as you said.
