Well it's Friday....
Is this very generous or just plain weird? I'm in the weird camp.

Both.
I was weirded out by this type of stuff before kids entered my life. Then all of a sudden I am going to strangers houses at random times and leaving 10 or 20 bucks in their garage freezer in exchange for a shopping bag full of some other lady's breast milk. I did prefer this method over meeting the milk doner face to face.
#awkwardanduncomfortable
EDIT: even more uncomfortable when the husband is there doing some manly work with his skid steer. Do you nod? Smile? Wave? Keep head down and not make eye contact?

I am sure the government is trying to find a way to tax human milk too. Or the FDA is trying to find a way to ban it.

Not sure if this is fake news or not. It was very real to me. :-)

The FDA was the first thing I thought of. How do you know what you're getting?kl8ton said:I am sure the government is trying to find a way to tax human milk too. Or the FDA is trying to find a way to ban it. -

Having milk banks run like blood banks as described in the article would definitely minimize the awkwardness.kl8ton said:Not sure if this is fake news or not. It was very real to me. :-)

I would think there is something to be said for knowing how the donor lives their life that is more important w/breast milk than with blood. Blood banks screen for bad stuff and often break blood down into components, so it's not all whole blood products. But the complexity of what is in breast milk that drives the benefit over formula isn't just avoidance of bad things, it's the value of good nutrition and healthy immunity. It's not just a safeguard and awkward thing.DoubleEgger said:

The first day care we had for our daughter was someone that watched a few kids in her home - very nice lady, good home, but at one point we found her nursing her own son that was over 2, I think he was like 3 years old. That was a little awkward.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

My wife breastfed all three of our children (2 being twins) for their first 14 months. I don't care if I ever see another booby in my life.

I agree but I've never been in a position like @kl8ton either. You do what you have to do to take care of your family.Legume said:

I am agreeing - blood bank approach I think probably causes more problems than it creates, you won't know where the product came from and while you may get some security in the fact that it's been tested for bad things, you don't know if you're getting any benefit over formula. Awkward aside, if you know marginally where it's coming from, that's probably better than turning it into a business. Not a lot of healthy individuals selling plasma these days, for instance.DoubleEgger said:

One lady, in a church i used to go to, breast fed her child long enough for him to yell "I want a boob mommy!" in the middle of the sermon.Legume said:The first day care we had for our daughter was someone that watched a few kids in her home - very nice lady, good home, but at one point we found her nursing her own son that was over 2, I think he was like 3 years old. One other thing to ponder- it is perfectly normal for us to drink milk from a cow, even as adults. So we are fine drinking milk from a different species, but our kids drinking milk from a human female that is not their mother is gross.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Yeah...it's so much better to drink a bottle of chemicals mixed with water made in some manufacturing plant.SmokeyPitt said:One other thing to ponder- it is perfectly normal for us to drink milk from a cow, even as adults. I'm guessing you're not familiar with the millennia old practice of having/using a wet nurse?“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk -
I don't actually think it's gross. I was trying to point out the irony that people in general are grossed out by other women's breast milk, but they are fine drinking milk from cows. I am cool with breast milk. I have tried it.HeavyG said:

My wife and I were in the food court at the mall. There was an Asian mother and child sitting across from one another at the table next to us each enjoying a slice of Sbarro pizza. Kid finished his slice, climbed down and walked over to mom then began pulling on her shirt and yelling "Boobie! Boobie!". She says "OK" and kid climbs up under her shirt and starts sucking away. Crazy!!!
