Looking for some advice from you brisket guru's.......fairly new egger here, but read these forums weekly gleaning all the help I can get.
My question is, after smoking a nice brisket, what BBQ sauce do ya'll use to compliment the brisket? My last two briskets came off the egg and tasted rather good without the sauce, but I enjoy a good BBQ sauce with the brisket. I've tried Stubbs and Sweet Baby Ray's, and both are good sauces with sausage and ribs, but they really clash with the smoked flavor of the brisket off of my egg.
What say you guru's ,,,,,any suggestions beside going naked with the brisket?

I like to doctor up sweet baby Ray's with a thin vinegar sauce to cut the sweetness for my brisket. I use Myron Mixon's recipe for his vinegar sauce.

I agree with cen-tex above. But in general, avoid sweet.XL & MM BGE, 36" Blackstone - Newport News, VA

I like Rib Rack Campfire Cider. It's a touch sweet as the name suggests. It's great on pulled pork too. Just used it on some pork nachos topped off with some honey chipotle baked beans, Mac n cheese, and fire roasted green chili's. There are several other varieties available from them if that doesn't suit your taste.
Fwiw I'm not a fan of baby rays on anything. its good for cocktail weenies because it's dirt cheap and works with the dish. For me it's too much with something as rich as brisket. -
Hmmm, sauce on brisket. Not often, but I like Salt Lick Habanero when I do sauce it, or Better Than Good Texas Moppin' Sauce. Both should be available on the HEB site Cent-ex posted.

I suggest you try making your own sauce. For the last brisket I did, I made Raichlen's basic barbecue sauce, but mixed in some very finely ground espresso. It worked perfectly and complemented the beef beautifully.

Thanks guys for the suggestions......btw, in my part of the country, BBQ sauce is served with brisket at all the restuarants I have tried. Some brisket needs sauce, and some doesn't. Depends on the quality of the Q.
Evie Mae's out in Lubbock needs no sauce.....the local Dickie's need all the help it can get.

That can't be right. 1/4 tablespoon? 1/4 tablespoon would be 3/4 of a teaspoon. So 3/4 of a teaspoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons? Nobody makes 1/4 tablespoon measures. Nah -- I think he meant something else and this is a typo or something.
Does anybody know what the real recipe says?
Thanks!

... 1/4 Tbsp + 1.5 tsp brown sugar...
THANKS for posting that and confirming that no kidding, that's what Franklin's book says. I can't help it, I still think it's a typo, and must be a typo in the book. Maybe he meant 1/4 CUP, not 1/4 Tablespoon.
I mean, seriously, nobody measures 1/4 of a tablespoon! There aren't any 1/4 Tb spoons, and what's the point? A teaspoon is 1/3 of a tablespoon, and will anyone really taste the difference between 1/4 tablespoon and 1/3 tablespoon, especially when added to another half tablespoon (the 1.5 tsp)? It just doesn't make any sense.
I could picture it maybe having been scaled down from 1 Tablespoon in a 4x larger original recipe to 1/4 tablespoon, but that would mean that the 1.5tsp in the scaled-down version would have been 6 tsp in the larger original recipe, but 6 tsp = 2 Tb, so 1 Tb + 6 tsp would equal 1 Tb + 2 Tb, so why wouldn't the original recipe just have been 3 Tb?
Seems to me he probably meant 1/4 CUP plus 1.5 tsp brown sugar. 1.5 tsp + 1/4 Tb is just nuts.

I'm going to try it with a 1/4 cup. I like a little sweetness and just tend to throw some brown sugar in it. I bet it is supposed to be 1/4 cup.XL BGE
