One of my Comrades has a 60th Birthday Bash coming up & thinking of making some of @YukonRon world famous Bourbon Slushies. Would love some feedback on type of container y'all use to make a batch or four. Mucho Gracias.

I mix everything in a large mixing bowl. I then either put them in freezer bags if I'm taking them somewhere or put in mason jars for home consumption.Large and Small BGECentral, IL

Thanks Saluki...that gives me an idea. I could put in 1 quart mason jars & leave some space for expansion. Would make them easy to transport.saluki2007 said:I mix everything in a large mixing bowl. Anyone create these with any other spirits? I've got a surplus of white rum in the house, and an unfortunate distaste for Bourbon.

stackable tupperware, have extra bourbon on hand to drizzle on top of the drink in the mason jar if too frozen
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
@ssqual612 I did say "unfortunate"... I keep trying, but blechh.
How about aged rum?

Pretty versatile recipe...I love the flavor of Meyers Dark Rum, but a nice spiced Rum might work as well.Kayak said:@ssqual612 I did say "unfortunate"... I keep trying, but blechh.

with the frozen concentrates im betting it would be simple to tweak it into a mai tai slushie with rum. ive got some titos vodka steeping with thai keiffer lime leaves to try in a few weeksKayak said:@ssqual612 I did say "unfortunate"... I keep trying, but blechh.

This type of experimentation should not be looked on as a chore, it should be embraced and done quickly and thoroughly.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

Feel free to double check my ciphering and figuring but if you add up the liquid in the recipe it comes to just shy of 1 gallon. I used a 1 gallon rubbermaid ice tea pitcher and it worked out well. That was just for one batch though. If you are really doing 4 you might want to get one of these:

Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
@SmokeyPitt Great tip...I have one of the gallon Rubbermaid pitchers I've used to transport Margaritas in zero glass environments. I think I'll pick up a couple more & do a couple versions so there's options for the Bourbon intolerant. Thanks.Tyler, TX XL BGE 2016, KJ Classic 2019, MES, 18.5 WSM, Akorn Jr, 36"&17" Black Stone, Adj Rig, Woo, Grill Grates, SS Smokeware Cap, KAB, FB 300, Thermapen

Do a test run. For me and the group I made them for, they were too sweet. We're not a sweet tea crowd so that's likely why, but do a test run. I know I can cut back on the sweetness next round.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

@Legume. Did you follow the exact recipe? What do you think about cutting sugar in 1/2. I can always have a little simple syrup on hand for those with sweeter taste.Tyler, TX XL BGE 2016, KJ Classic 2019, MES, 18.5 WSM, Akorn Jr, 36"&17" Black Stone, Adj Rig, Woo, Grill Grates, SS Smokeware Cap, KAB, FB 300, Thermapen

Yes, followed it to the letter. You could try half the sugar, or maybe no added sugar and taste before you freeze it.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

Took some over the weekend to a party, and used Cask Strength, un cut. Initially I thought the mix was going to be very strong.
Those animals guzzled them down, and actually added a shot or two more to their pours.
Uber and Lyft worked out well for many that evening.

might try rye instead of bourbon, bourbon is too sweet for me even straight. really like the bulliet rye though

Is "Cask Strength" more than the 3 cups of Bourbon in the recipe?YukonRon said:Took some over the weekend to a party, and used Cask Strength, un cut. Initially I thought the mix was going to be very strong.

It is a bottling that means uncut from the barrel, I think. Much of the bourbon and whiskeys are cut with water before bottling to reduce the proof to bring it within the guidelines.SSQUAL612 said:

Old Overholt would probably work great as well.fishlessman said:might try rye instead of bourbon, bourbon is too sweet for me even straight. really like the bulliet rye though -
Ron, I made some off the recipe you posted and everyone loved them. I kept it simple and used Jim beam. Served in solo cups for the party but kept a few in the freezer in some mason jars for myself!
Thanks for sharing -

That would be a waste of fine aged rum!Kayak said:@ssqual612 I did say "unfortunate"... I keep trying, but blechh.
How about aged rum?
I stick with the cheaper stuff for sweet or frozen drinks. Now, maybe an aged rum floater...
That said, I do make a fantastic painkiller and I use rum that I spice myself. I wouldn't call it cheap, but you need the flavor to break through the pineapple and coconut.

This looks very similar to the base recipe, but way too much sugar and not enough petro.

I've settled on the perfect summer drink using the Bourbon Slushy recipe as a base.
750ml Cheap Bourbon (Evan Williams)
1 12oz (355ml) frozen OJ concentrate + 1 can water
1 12oz (355ml) frozen Lemonade concentrate + 1 can water
1 cup sugar
Stir until dissolved.
Fill a tall glass w/ice. Fill half-way up with the Bourbon Slushy base and top it off with unsweetened iced-tea. Give it a quick stir, bask in the sun.
Makes enough base to fill 3 750ml liquor bottles. Can be frozen as-is in the liquor bottles without a loss in quality.
