Dracarys stainless steel lower vent replacement

East-Central Alabama. I've had my egg for around 18 months now. Grilled a ton on it. About 6-8 months ago I notice the vent looking a little brown/rusty. 3-4 months ago a hole began to wear in the center of the screen. It's gotten bigger ever since. I suppose the outdoor humidity could have been the cause, but I would think SS screen would have held up a bit better than this did.caliking said:
Where are you located? It seems odd that the screen would disinetgrate like that, unless its an older egg with a non-SS intake. Do you cover the egg? I 've had my eggs outside, uncovered, in very humid Houston. Screen is just fine. The one time i started having mold issues was when I thought they needed to be covered.WDE86 said:
I'm only interested because my egg has been kept inside an enclosed porch since I've have had it and the screen has already crumbled. It wasn't poked or bumped, it simply rusted and dissolved. And I use my egg at least twice a week. Most weeks more.caliking said:Kinda sounds like reinventing the mousetrap? Why?
Shout out to BGE customer service however because they sent me a replacement no questions asked, but the metal parts warranty only runs so long and I don't want to replace the screen vent every 12-18 months.
If its just the look of the rusty vent thats bothering you then this Dracary one may work for you, I guess.
I'll say this again also, I called BGE, spoke to a very nice service rep. and he arranged for it to be replaced no questions asked. We actually had a nice conversation. By far one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. -
Mine has a hole in it too, like it just kind of disintegrated in the middle. 3 years old I think. Sits uncovered in backyard.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

For twelve years I never used the screen because both my eggs are on concrete. This past summer, as my KAB gradually got in worse shape a piece of lit charcoal shot out and I stepped on it bare foot. Hurt like a mo'fo. Now I try and remember to use the screen.

For whatever reason, my screens are totally gone. Few remnants remain. And I have some "cigarette burns" on my table in front of my lower vent from stuff popping out the lower vent.caliking said:

I have a metal shield down there now, but it does happen. The table is finished where it's not very combustible from that sort of thing, but one thing can lead to another....and I'm rolling bareback on my wood deck on a wood table. And good homeowners insurance.
It's not the low and slows I'm worried about. Seems like an improvement over the OEM screen. And I'll fight anyone who disagrees with me because I'm a belligerent hippy.
