What brand and stem length do you guys and gals recommend? Thinking Tel Tru or Smoke ware.

For about 5 bucks you can get a KJ thermometer. For the record, they are made by one of the large manufacturers that make thermometers for other companies as well.
    I really like them myself.

Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

    Status- Standing by.

On a serious note, the KJ thermometers are made by Tel True. They have a large dial that's easy to read. Not saying that they are the best, but for what they cost they are as good as any.

I think the SW blackfaced thermo is easy to read, and looks sharp with the stainless cap.

My irrational pet peeve is any thermo that tells me what temp is smoke, what temp is grill, etc.

That black Smokeware only shows 700. I sometimes get my grill hotter than that. Sometimes it's on purpose.
The KJ gauge works fine but it is threaded on the back. So after spacing it out from the dome, it can roll. Some are OK with that, my OCD is not.

If you're above 700 not sure it matters how far above 700 you are.  Does it really matter whether you're cooking 800 or 900?
