Broken dome

Used my new BGE last weekend and the top fell off . I'm sure I'm not the first . Had to buy a new top and torqued the bolts down until they bent, any other tips so it doesn't happen again?

Don't let @JRWhitee use your Egg is one.
I got lucky. My dome fell off a trailer, somehow missed the side of the trailer, and a picnic table, and landed on the ground. Only thing messed up was some of the green on the logo on the dome chipped.------------------------------

There are a couple threads around here talking about the "new & improved" band design that apparently incorporates some tabs on the band to help prevent that from happening:

Might talk to your dealer about that.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk -
I would say welcome aboard and enjoy the journey as it can only get better. I don't recall the band bolt torque specs but in years past the assembly instructions mentioned that the bolts would bend when properly cinched.
Above all, have fun.
And @tarheelmatt dodged a bullet for sure. Probably a good time to check the band bolts is after a BGE road-trip in a trailer before unloading. I'm sure the ride is what losened things up.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -
you say this was new. Did the dealer assemble it for you? You may have some remedy if they did.
